I really looked into the steel plate thing back in 2020-2022. I had two sets of the things, and I got rid of them over concerns that spalling if I ever needed put them to their intended use would kill me. Spalling from rifle rounds hitting these things does not make one big, neat hole in tissue behind and above it, it splatters radiating outwards, just like it does at the range. If Charlie had been wearing a steel plate and took a .30-06 in the plate, it would have shredded that shirt, and he'd have a bunch of bleeding wounds all over his arms, the underside of his jaw, and his legs. We don't see that in any footage. What we see is one neat wound, and a shockwave that snaps his head and chest forward when the bullet hits him. Why would a rifle round fired at a downward angle deflect up, instead of fragmenting? It wouldn't.

They also don't make steel plates that look anything like a normal human torso that would be remotely concealable under just a plain t-shirt, and the thing people keep saying is the armor printing under his t-shirt on the right side of his chest is a lapel mic.

Stop spreading this stupid steel plate shit, guys. If you really think this is what happened, there's all kinds of testing of these things all over YouTube and Reddit going back about six years. Go look, instead of just reposting and giving these assholes clicks and engagement. You can see what it does to cardboard boxes, raw pork ribs, water jugs and more. It does not do anything like we saw happened to Charlie. It's some derpy shit from someone trying to sound smart, it's fucking dumb.

On topic, I'm really glad to see they got him. I can't imagine what that family is feeling today. I'm honestly less concerned with the shooter today than I am everyone who has been celebrating his actions. Whatever the outcome, he's out of the game now, but there are other players on the board.

Sadly, I agree with Hanson's opinion that there is no viable replacement for Kirk.

Mostly, my problem is parasitic social media engagement based on made up shit getting repeated in a community where enough of us know better. There's zero reason to repeat stuff this inaccurate, especially on the heels of pages of debate about whether it was a Mauser or a Remington 700, or whatever. If you have a problem with that, I guess I don't really care.
