It comes to mind that city government only exists to perpetuate itself. They say they serve the people, but I find little evidence of that. All those employees (not workers)still on the payroll, but not working. They've installed a website to answer questions, but it doesn't. No phone numbers listed, because they're not working. I knew that back in the "good times". But for them, these are the good times. Pay and not having to show up. Kind of like my retirement. But I don't get full pay, and kid myself into thinking I worked for it. Well, I did go in every day.

The only ones that haven't gotten a break during this shutdown are the taxpayers. At least those that worked in private industry can get unemployment, plus the $600 a week bonus for being displaced. I wonder if the city "workers" get that too? No wonder they're so happy. This shit has gone on long enough.

Your lucky our county (about a month ago) sent out property tax increase letters. 25% increase on value...equates to around 10% in dollars. They send 2 mowers twice a year keeping the foliage down on non residential properties.

As Orwell noted in Animal Farm, all animals are equal, but some animals are more equal.

Seems to me the top two spending categories in much of gov't spending is payroll/benefits for public employees; and "rob Peter to pay Paul", ie, spend public money on welfare to buy votes, (after they take the first cut of tax collections to pay themselves. Roll Eyes )

F'in county is trying to bang me out of even more money on property tax. The jumps over the last 5 years have been ridiculous. I'm about to file a protest as I have had it with these POS. They should have flatlined it this year. School is out for months. So while I could tolerate a flat line, an increase is an insult.

So many cities have bloated govt. with more divisions to control the volumes of ordinances, permits and other expenses.

In my former department the court has about nine employees. Part time Judge, Prosecutor and Public Defender.

Over the years, the new E tickets that are computer generated and e complaints did away for the need to manually enter the data into the system. Yet no reduction in staff.

They have a building department although 80 percent of the town is controlled by a state agency that approves plans. All full time with benefits.

The school system eats up a large portion of the taxes paid locally. Meanwhile NJ and US schools in general have become less successful. the govt. has made education a quest to pass a test and not learn.

They're just getting started. Wait to see what happens due to the decrease of sales taxes collected during this shutdown along with the increasing lack due to online sales.

That means the people that can pay are dwindling, and means it is high time to escape from that municipality.

No I don't. When your county does +40k, +50k, +20k, etc etc every year you get fed up quick. The county acts like your house is completely remodeled and spanked out a to z.
