The drive was too long. Too bad I missed it. I was running an errand about 5 minutes away from there and thought about popping over to check out the Gun Library, but I copped out. https://www.wisn.com/article/t...oEGXRU2zrB794B4ul9xA

I dunno about helicopters, but you can legally land fixed wing aircraft most anywhere you can safely do so, provided that you have the landowner’s permission. Unless the rules are different for helos, this could be a sticking point.

Too bad he didn’t fly to what used to be the Mother Ship of Cabela’s, Sidney, Nebraska. Now that a VC forced the sale to Bass Pro, he could have set it down about anywhere around the store. Before that camping, hunting, and fishing enthusiasts from all over the country made it a point to stop there. _______________________________________________________ despite them

I have to ask. Why would anyone want to go to Bass Pro. Note it doesn't matter if the sign out front say's Cabela's, walk in the front door and you will find Bass Pro. I will also note that in Michigan Gun Libraries are a Cabela's thing and these are all Bass Pro. I've stopped counting.

Sometimes you need lures and such. I don't care to patronize them either, but Sportsman's Warehouse ain't a whole lot better. What I don't understand, is why these retail folks don't just keep doing what worked. Money, I guess. The root of all evil. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. You can land Helo's just about anywhere IF you need to due to weather. They can't fly through heavy rain and stuff with little to no visibility.

And yet more bullshit from he who thinks he knows everything about aviation. Helicopter pilots can add instrument ratings to their certificates, just like fixed wing pilots. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

You see the way some people drive in a 2 dimensional space, now you want them to add in a third? Nope! Happy as hell I don't have to worry about flying cars falling from the sky because of idiots. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. My buddy flew helicopters for Boat pics for a career, he has thousands and thousands of hours, grand dad. A Robinson helicopter, which is what the guy landed in the Bass Pro parking lot, isn't flying in inclement weather!!!! But you know that, or do you? It didn't work out too well for Kobe Bryant either, and he had a top of the line helicopter. You know anything about reduced rotor performance? "A Robinson helicopter can operate in light to moderate rain and some wind, but it cannot safely fly in heavy precipitation, thunderstorms, icing, dense fog, or extreme winds. Always check pre-flight weather reports, company policies, and your pilot’s decision before flying in marginal conditions." Light rain is often manageable, but heavy precipitation, lightning, hail, or winds above ~30–35 knots usually trigger cancellations because visibility and rotor performance drop quickly helicopted.com. Low visibility (e.g., fog, heavy rain) requires instrument flight rules (IFR) and advanced avionics, terrain awareness systems, and careful altitude management to avoid controlled flight into terrain (CFIT) helicopted.com+1. Wind and turbulence can cause mast bumping, rotor blade contact with obstacles, or loss of control during hover or landing helicopted.com. Icing and extreme temperatures can damage rotor blades and reduce lift helicopted.com. Pilots use conservative “go/no‑go” criteria, often stricter than FAA minimums, and may delay or cancel flights in marginal conditions helicopted.com+1. https://helicopted.com/can-hel...copter-capabilities/

Yes. I remember reading something about requiring and autopilot or two rated pilots for IFR operations, but that may have just been someone’s OpSpec (Operating Specifications, an agreement with the FAA as to how an operator will proceed, often containing limitations not listed as general limitations in the Federal Aviation Regulations oe FARs), and not a general regulation.

Kobe’s pilot was likely equipped and qualified for Instrument flight. However, that would have taken him to an airport with an instrument approach, not where he wanted to go. Instead he chose to scud run at a high rate of speed with predictable results.

Jimmy? I think I've defended you in the past, but man...stick to sailing. You know nothing of aviation. You can't even imagine the places I've been in in a helo (or hanging out of one at the end of a cable) and the conditions that it was done in. Just stop man. Let it go. You're embarrassing yourself. ________________________________________________________ It is long past time for a Convention of States. Yep, just had one crash departing a wedding here across the road from me. Idiot took off at NIGHT in overcast and rainy conditions. The groom WAS a Delta first officer. He even had misgivings about the flight according to family. When I heard the thing land I was like what idiot is out in this? I have 10 hours in a rotary wing in 2 different makes. https://aviation-safety.net/wikibase/571084 He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster.
