Shoot down three or four of these gadgets every night they appear. Once we recover some wreckage, we'll have a better idea of who is piloting these things.

And, hey, here's a radical idea- how 'bout the authorities try to track these things to the places they will inevitably land?

That's some radical shit, huh?

First things first. Send some hillbilly up in a choppa with his full-choke 28" 870 and some 00 buck and tell him to have at it.

All of this shit is beyond stupid. Authorities shrugging their shoulders like George Costanza has gotten very old. Let's cut the shit and get serious about bringing down some of these gadgets. This will cost some people a lot of money, so once these things start falling from he sky, the nightly show will cease.

I don’t believe anything the .gov is telling us about anything.
They are probably .gov drones

Yes, just follow them until they land or run out of juice fleeing. I believe any level of private or govt or military pilots could get it done. As Para said, DUH...

If they aren’t from our gov. This administration is more inept than even I thought.

They are bigger than any drone the general public knows about, can fly with no sound, can stay up for hours at a time and are apparently landing on something out at sea because no one has spotted one coming into set down on land.

I’m sure it’s our military and they just don’t want to fill us in.

This is the problem when a government lies so very often to its people. This attitude of "I don't believe anything they say" is understandable to a great degree, but the reality is that it would take a tremendous and constant effort for a government to lie to its people about everything. Tremendous and constant.

However, this reality is ignored by many people. I am not saying that this terminal pessimism is not understandable. Our government is its own worst enemy.

People in this country need to understand that not everything the government tells us is a lie.

This is the truth, but I'm not necessarily even applying it to this particular situation. At this point, I don't know what our government officials know about this silly drone shit. What I do know is that there is not a 100% chance that they are lying to us. Hanlon's Razor. These melon farmers might actually be as stupid and inept as they are appearing right now.

If it is a military/gov't operation, it's just as incompetent that they are keeping at it with all the attention on them right now to provide answers.

FORT BELVOIR, Va. — The first two combat brigades to get the Army’s long-awaited backpack-portable electronic warfare kit are already experimenting with new tactics, officers and NCOs told reporters here on Tuesday.

Formally known as the TLS-BCT (Terrestrial Layer System — Brigade Combat Team) Manpack, the system fills a longtime gap in the Army’s digital arsenal: It gives frontline troops on foot the ability to detect enemy radio transmissions, pinpoint their sources for precision strike and, in some configurations, jam the signal. Such electronic warfare capabilities are more critical than ever on battlefields dominated by radio-controlled drones.

“I think that some of the soldiers were surprised by how they were able to use it at JRTC [the Joint Readiness Training Center] to identify enemy drones and things like that,” said Lt. Col. John Cross, the Army’s product manager for the system. “It kind of has opened the minds of the commanders as to what’s possible.”

Many FAA regulations are logical. Some seem unreasonable. For example, I can't legally fly my drones 10 feet in the air in my backyard because I live within a zero-foot box (see the facility map). <<snip>>

Can you give an understandable definition of what this "zero-foot box" is? I've tried to research it to no avail. Thanks!

More BS regarding the "drone situation" from The Western Journal website. The amount of conflicting information is beyond disturbing!!!

Western Journal Article on Drones, Including a Statement That Trump is in Danger!

"GOP Sen. Josh Hawley, who serves on the Homeland Security Committee, told Fox News Tuesday night that he does not think the federal government is being fully forthright about what it knows about the drones."

Talk about a massive understatement!!! These incompetent fools in our government are reaching new lows that I never thought possible!

It's FAA designated area that means a drone cannot be any higher then setting on the ground, within that area.

In other words, "no drone zone". (cannot operate a drone in that airspace from zero feet AGL and up.)

In aviation parlance, a "box" is a cube cuz, 3D world.

We have a bingo! Fear-mongering at its finest.
The idea that our government can't get to the bottom of this is laughable.
I suspect we'll see a nice piece of Drome legislation in the coming weeks/months to further restrict the use of Drones along with new funds/laws to fight the growing terrorism threat. Roll Eyes

You bet. If you head over to the FAA UAS Facility Map, you can zoom into your area, and you'll see a grid around your local big airport. For example...

It shows the maximum altitudes around airports where the FAA may authorize part 107 (or recreational) UAS operations without an FAA waiver. You'll see a grid that has numbers inside. That is the maximum altitude at which you can fly your drone with LAANC (FAA) approval. LAANC approval is ordinarily immediate and done through an app.

The grids show numbers between 0 and 400. I'm in a zero-foot box, so no LAANC approval is available. I can walk up the street, launch from within a 100' box, and fly up to 100' in that box. If I try to fly the drone towards my house (in the zero-foot box), I'll get all kinds of warnings, and the drone will not be able to go within the zero-foot box. (I suppose different drones will act in various ways in these situations.)

These drones are deployed after dark, with functional lighting. I assume the operator wants them to be seen. Why?

Hey, Steve495: I looked at the UAS map for K.I. Sawyer Airport and on its Northeast side was a box that said "Marquette Class E4". What does that mean?

I was wondering that. They seem to have typical navigational lighting. Also, NJ reports IIRC that the "drones" are NOT following illegal flight patterns.
