It’s probably a typical residential wooden door frame with a small metal reinforcing plate on the edge behind the trim. Wooden frames are only that good. It’s a little pointless to make them much sturdier unless all of your windows are protected.
A metal door with a metal frame, a couple of locks spaced apart, and small, high vision panels would be a more secure option for a brick home with difficult to reach windows.

On closer inspection you're right. A thin metal sheet can be seen twisted and torn.
