They were on the phone with 911 as this all went down.

It's easy to armchair quarterback this but how would YOU react to someone with that dead-eye, blank look putting his his full (big) weight into his shoulder trying to burst your door open? I'd be shooting too. 100%

Any time somebody questions me about this situation I direct them to this case.

This even convinced my wife of the need for a firearm for self-defense.

On the contrary. If you're going to get yourself shot in the torso, that'd be the place to pick.

To be clear though, any place is a bad place to get shot.

My only criticism is that they not say anything. Nothing to neighbors, nothing. They were being recorded. Other than what the recently deceased did, I wouldn’t say anything else. Lawyer up and dig in.

Were the neighbors drunk? Looked like one had a beer in his hand, you'd think they were looking at a dead cat in the driveway. Great reminder why we all need cameras

They were on the phone with the police. The guy broke the door in and was getting ready to enter the house. How long do you wait before shooting? 5' in the house 10', 20'?

The man had the only barrier between a crazed man and his wife and daughter busted in. How much restraint do you practice when you're middle aged and a much younger and presumably stronger person that has been obsessing about your daughter for 18 months is 20' away? How can you be certain that youth is his only advantage, maybe he has a gun/knife concealed?

I'm all for not shooting people, but the best that dad could have given was a second or two for one last warning after he breached the door.

The worst piece of advice I've read this decade. If anyone believes that I suggest you seriously change your view or get prepared to spend some time locked up.

Really, this decade? Is that really the worst advice you've read in 3 years? Really? Big Grin I'm pretty sure he was tongue in cheek when he said it but he was trying to make a point. In NYS the intruder has to be inside of the house. Oh how I long for Texas, trying to convince my wife to retire there. I believe this shooting was justified. But what if there was no video? I think thank goodness there is.

Its easy to criticize from afar. The shooter did want him to go away. He didn't. Use your shoulder at my house and see where it gets you. As for the neighbor, I'd guess he stays away too.
