Hm...well maybe if the 'pucks' actually had a delayed auto-deployment of a rim full of blades or spikes once the puck reaches 'terminal' velocity; i.e., the 'throwing star' model. And to help reach that 'terminal' speed, each kid is issued a Puck Chucker 3000 (hopefully it's well beyond the 'prototype' stage by now)...at the very least it would make for an interesting horror movie plot.

Think of all the students and teachers there are across this land. That kid in the video would be a jillionaire, by golly. Hope he thought to patent the thing.

Weapon, you say? Well, um, maybe. But it's just powered by cute (no so) lil' ol' rubber bands. No smokeless powder or ignition source is ever involved. That should score some points with someone, I think. Though no background check is required...damn. The lefties will kill it on that one point alone.

Back to the drawing board...

What about "Gun free zone" signs, that would make the bad guys think twice.

I am close to OU and in there defense they do have a CHICK-FIL-LA. Hockey pucks to defend against a shooter, NOT SMART. I'd rather have my P-229. Until we get it through our heads that Gun Free zones are an invitation to come shoot everyone, these places will never be safe. My wife works every day at one of these, "please choose us as your place to shoot people while remaining safe yourself". Sad, truly sad!

How naive are the people who believe this will work and we entrust our kids to these people for their education. Glad mine know better.

Did they even consider a bar of Irish Spring in a sock? Razz

If people would mind their own damn business this country would be better off. I owe no one an explanation or an apology for my personal opinion.

I was just about to post about slipping a puck into a sock and turn them into a blackjack which would be better than 99% throwing a puck.

Since having rotator cuff surgery - I throw like a girl. One more reason to keep a pistol in my pocket instead of a puck..

Even a girl throws better than I ever did. I truly sucked at sports.

Yes--throwing hockey pucks at perps with guns is a stupid idea.

I’m actually somewhat encouraged to see them acknowledging that you need to fight back and defend yourself.

That crap about hiding was worthless. It just created fish in a barrel. Once they start to take a proactive approach to defending themselves, I think it’s only a matter of time until they decide they need a better tool for said defense.

Not sure what's worse for MI, the water in Flint or the puck-flinging schools in Detroit. I can only imagine that the Red Wings had a surplus of pucks and someone was like...WTF can we use these for? Self defense of course... Personally I think boomerangs would be much better. Why bring a puck to a gun fight when you can bring a WiFi-enabled boomerang with a selfie cam and Google Home support! Just imagine all the kick ass photos you can share on Facebook as you dodge bullets like a mofo.

There is the irony. A hockey stick is a device designed to launch pucks with great velocity with amazing accuracy in skilled hands. Yet those would be considered weapons.

I've used this machine at goaltending camps in the past. It is a bit bulky and requires a 220V power source. However, it does have a 20 round magazine and will launch a puck 100+ yards out into a corn field (don't ask).

Is that considered a high capacity magazine? How do you know how far...in a corn field?

HOw long before the first reports of students using their hockey pucks to assault each other? They wouldn't have thought of doing it before but now it's been explained and given to them.
