Beautiful mountains, every kind of outdoor activity - lakes, streams, trails, 4 seasons, solid Red, no income tax, access to lake/farm/city property depending on what you want. Low real estate and cost of living.

Just moved across the state line into Virginia recently, but we were close enough to still live in TN and tried to find something, but ended up finding our dream home in southwest VA. The part of VA we are in is very red and beautiful part of the country.

We were in Sevierville,TN this past October. Now we are looking into moving somewhere between Knoxville and there.

Cedar City, Utah pretty well meets your description. Small college town. Not too far from major shopping in St.George.

I'll second this, I live 40 miles south of CC in Washington County. Our county is growing rapidly and at 3000 ft we're hot in Summer. We escape to Cedar City and above for cooler temps. Land would be more available in the Cedar City/Parowan area, too.

Cedar City looks nice.

I've gone out of my way to stay in CC when day-hiking Kolob Canyon @ Zion (and no campground reservation). Loved it. Good water, I recall (but maybe it was filtered?). A fuel station owner talked with me for a spell last trip through. He watched the town grow his whole life and now - May 2017 - he was moving to the idea of selling the station and retiring.

Agreed! NC, just me, but I would rather be west of Charlotte, even west of Asheville, we love the mountains of southwestern NC

Waynesville is really leading the charge. We’re gonna have to visit soon.

My hometown, Knoxville, TN. You can live near this big city (ha) in Maryville (once you learn to say it correctly (murvul). If you fail this pronunciation test, you can live in Lenoir City, or Loudon, but you would probably not make it in Louisville. Why? Because it is Louis -- vul. Not Looeeville. More pronunciation challenges. If you are Mensa, or pretend to be smart like them, you might make it in Oak Ridge, aka the Atomic City. You don't need night lights in most homes there.

what do you wanna see? where do you want to experience?

what are you missing out on ?

we moved a dozen times in 33 years.

we wanted to see all the wonderment that west of the Mississippi had to offer,
No ca, so ca, az, Co, WA state.

we got our eyes and minds full of 8 cities in 6 states. then we moved back home to the mid west.

I couldn't have picked a better person to do it with .

Well, my wife and I moved from Florida to Washington where the grass is pretty damn green and there’s not really any such thing as biting bugs. But now they’re all about taking our guns and railroading and ostracizing conservatives so the grass don’t grow, the wind don’t blow and the sky ain’t blue no more. I’d rather deal with biting insects than parasitic humans that the local governments demand be fed heroin, a “safe” (Narcan-equipped and professionally staffed) place to use it, housing, and tax dollars. Fuck all that. I can swat mosquitos and be glib about it being a fair fight.

I don’t envision any “safe injection site” on my fucking screened porch somewhere in the hopefully not-too-distant future. No sir, bloodsuckers will get no quarter.
