I’m sorry as well and it’s tough putting into words how one feels, but you did Kodak credit. My only advice, don’t let the silence get to you as there’s still time to give life & share special moments with another of God’s greatest gifts.

They are called our lifelong friends, but alas they perish long before us. My Prayers for you and Kodak to meet again in happier times. Bless you for giving him your love and time, I'm sure he cherished it!

Sorry to hear this, a pet owners worst moments.
As a temporary diversion, consider contacting a rescue to be a temporary foster in this time when they will be getting a lot of turn-in's. You don't have a long term commitment and get a sampling of dogs that are already screened and relatively healthy. You'll also be saving some lives.
If and when you're ready, you can later find a new companion if you find "the one".
