Team - I inherited my dads Sig Sauer P226 9 mm. The serial number is U642098 and it was purchased in 2002. It states that at least some of the gun was made in Germany.

Can you share when it was made and roughly what it may be worth?

Thank you

Just because something is legal to do doesn't mean it is the smart thing to do.

This might help on when it was made:

Value?
Might look at some of the online gun auctions to get an idea.

Those are my favorites. It should have proof marks and a date code, which will tell you the year it was made. Check the link posted above for info on the date codes.

If it's from your father it should be priceless.

I've got a couple of P226's. They are great guns. Take it to the range and enjoy it.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Don’t ever get rid of it. You will regret it.

As far as I'm concerned there was no more improvement after the P226. When I picked it up the fit to the hand, acquiring the sights, the trigger, it was a custom fit without the custom work being done.

I tried shooting one hand, two hands, limp wrist, gangster style, upside down, hollow point, FMJ, all different waits, Never a misfeed, never a failure to eject.

It is the goat of pistols.

I actually had a girlfriend that made my P226 jam. Now I’ve tried to make this gun fail.
Same weird positions as you have, all without effect. This gal on the other hand apparently limp wristed the gun so bad it had a failure to feed.
She says, “The gun jammed.”
I’m like, “It’s a SIG! What the hell did you do?”
I fired it 30 more times without difficulty trying to re-create the malfunction. Roll Eyes

I tried to make one of my Glocks fail by limp-wristing it.
One finger on the trigger, one on the back strap. It fired, flew into air and landed on the ground after extracting the round and feeding the next one.
(No, I didn’t try to catch it even though that thought very briefly went though my head)

The P226 is the gun I always said, “I would take this to WAR!”

Value? Best price I have ever seen was a selection of police trade ins that were selling for $500. Think some were double action only. They had notable holster wear and no idea of a round count through them. Despite that history the one I shot was 100% reliable with an excellent trigger.

It's worth $500-600 most likely, but to me it would be priceless.

It's sad you want to sell it, but gun broker will both provide the current going rates and a venue for selling it.

He didn't say he wanted to sell it. He was curious as to value. Might simply want to give half the value to a sibling, or get insurance etc. I'd agree with the not selling your dads inheritance, but my father died when I was 18 months and I didn't get doodly squat, so maybe I see it as more valuable than he does if selling is his goal.

You can check "riverofguns.com" https://riverofguns.com/tr/index.pl?s=Sig+Sauer+P226 or Gunbroker to see what they are selling for. There are a lot of differing versions, you likely have a standard version. Congrats on owning an iconic pistol.

What it is worth is an agreement between buyer and seller. I have things that to you may be a worthless piece of garbage. However they are priceless to me based on my relationship with the previous owner. Part is the value you place on the object.

Conversely the buyer may have a unique interest in the item. Say it was an officer that carried one in his career and 098 was his badge number. That might carry far higher value for that individual as a buyer. Or perhaps has ...099 and wants a match set.

An item's worth is somewhat subjective.
