I liked it and if my wife wanted it for her car I would buy one. She rarely drives more than 50 miles from our house. In the event of a hurricane (I live in S. FL.) it would be an advantage. Before the storm long lines and short supplies are the norm and after a storm the same or worse. We have a whole house generator so keeping her car charged would be no problem, easier than finding gas.

It would not work for me as we take my car when we do road trips 3 or 4 times a year and as stated the charging station thing is a no go.

It can work well for some people depending on their circumstances. It is not a tool of the devil just because some progressives want to make it mandatory for everyone. That is the evil. But I would not reject it out of hand just because of that.

These will further significantly complicate hurricane evac plans because a couple nimrods trying to evac in these will run out of juice on the highway, blocking lanes.

could be, but that nimrod won't be me. We would take my car in that event regardless.

I got that, and was making a general observation, not accusing you of planning such.

Having seen about a dozen of these things, I tried to think of something nice to say about them. Nice paint.

I have solar panels and a double Tesla battery wall on the house, so I can drive for zero cost on the electricity.

I have not even test driven one yet.

Part of what intrigued was the fact that the inside of the car did remind me of my Escape that I have always liked.

The electric only car does give pause.

It won’t be the only car.

Thanks for the input so far.

I'm part of the group that wouldn't buy one solely because of the name too, but your use case sounds ideal for an electric vehicle. It would have plenty of range for most of the things you need a vehicle for, and you have a second vehicle for the times that would be a consideration. Plus, you're already set up for it so you really could drive it for next to nothing.

"The people hate the lizards and the lizards rule the people."
"Odd," said Arthur, "I thought you said it was a democracy."
"I did," said Ford, "it is."
"So," said Arthur, hoping he wasn't sounding ridiculously obtuse, "why don't the people get rid of the lizards?"
"It honestly doesn't occur to them. They've all got the vote, so they all pretty much assume that the government they've voted in more or less approximates the government they want."
"You mean they actually vote for the lizards."
"Oh yes," said Ford with a shrug, "of course."
"But," said Arthur, going for the big one again, "why?"
"Because if they didn't vote for a lizard, then the wrong lizard might get in."

Matt Farah does a two year review of his wifes Mach-E and he's not the type to sugar coat something just because he owns it. It's kind of interesting being from California and he said he has never one time pulled up to a charger and it worked the first time no problem and also charged at the indicated speed.

I've owned a Mach E GTPE for over a year and absolutely love it. I have a convertible for a pleasure vehicle which I take on road trips because buying gas is just much easier. For commuting around Phoenix it can't be beat. I installed a level 2 charger in the garage and start every day at 90%. Ford recommends staying between 10% and 90%. On a 50 amp breaker you'll add about 28 miles of range per hour. 110V charging would add 3 miles of range per hour. If you charge to 100% the last 10% will slow charge to protect the battery. Ford made a deal with Tesla allowing Ford EV's to use Tesla superchargers starting some time next year. This is huge for people that do take them on road trips. Cold weather is not your friend. People have been reporting 25% to 30% drop in range in freezing temps.Even in Phoenix I noticed a small drop in range over the winter. Overall, it checked all the right boxes for me. The kid in me would like a Corvette but my aching back would like an Avalon. LOL I also need something I can throw the dogs in. This EV crossover has all the right trade-offs for me. Anything else just ask. Tried to give you an unbiased review.

I test drove one today and I was very impressed.

Late afternoon I got a call from the dealership about my Escape.

The mice/rats? had eaten all the heat shield material in the engine. They told me that it was going to be a minimum of a grand just to clean out the mess. They said they had to disassemble the front of the car, bumpers and all. Then disinfect it just to see how much damage was done. So essentially it was going to be a grand just to tell me how much damage the rodents caused.

With that information I decided to cut bait (pun intended) and I bought the Premium Mach E Mustang.

I pick it up tomorrow morning.

I think I'm going to enjoy the car.

We had to replace a good amount of wiring harness in a customer's Camry a few years ago because of rodent damage. About five thousand dollars worth, if I remember right. Her homeowner's insurance covered most of it.
We found some cayenne- or capsaicin-impregnated tape made just for that purpose to wrap the new harness with; apparently, rodents don't like spicy food...
The tape was available from one of the manufacturers - I don't remember for sure; might have been Nissan or Hyundai. Was not Toyota.

My wife has a friend who had a nice SUV with 60,000 miles on it and it needed a $600 repair and she didn’t have the money for it. So she bought a new $45k instead. And she complains about money all the time and works 3 jobs.

It does seem that rodents are more attracted to the "eco-friendly" soy based wiring harnesses that manufacturers have been using.

Just regularly use a vehicle and the mice won't feel confident that they'll be left alone to spend the time and effort to set up shop. It's when a car sits for more than a few days is when rodents become a potential issue. Several of our friends rudely found that out during COVID when they started working from home and started relying upon online shopping rather than going out into the world for their goods and material needs. Some of their cars sat unused for weeks and even months and behold, became infested with mice and rat homesteads.

As for the Mach-E: I too hate the Mustang marketing tie-in but the wife and I have driven the car and frankly we both liked it a lot...all except for the price. There was a ridiculous "market correct" markup in play at the time and we weren't having any of that. We ultimately went with another dinosaur juice SUV (the Mazda CX-50), but the Ford was very tempting.

Aside from possible range anxiety with long trips and the sketchy reliability of all charging stations NOT run by Tesla, the only thing I REALLY don't like about EVs are with the batteries. However rare battery fires actually are, every time I see footage of a lithium battery fire in a vehicle and how they quickly become out of control I cringe at the thought of that happening in or around our house. Maybe if I were to have a non-water fire suppression system installed in the garage to go with that Level-2 charging outlet...yeah, it's only (more) money...

(EDIT) Oh I forgot...congrats to the OP on buying the Mach-E.

Strange that the dealerships would still be trying to extract a market adjustment on a poor selling vehicle. You should have pointed that out to them so they knew you were in the know and came back to earth on their pricing.
