I was traveling from the Bay Area to SoCal to visit my sister and my car died (Ford Escape )in the fast lane of the 5.

It was 105 going over the grapevine and after I got over it, my car died in stop and go traffic just past Six Flags.

No warning ⚠️ just died.

Got pushed off the freeway by the CHP and then towed to the closest Ford dealer.

They lifted the hood and found a huge mouse nest in the front of the engine compartment. So maybe they chewed my wires? Won’t find out until Monday or Wednesday being the holiday weekend.

So anyhow, while I was waiting for my sister to come rescue me I was hanging out in the air conditioned show room. While there I saw the Mach E Mustang SUV for the first time and I kinda liked it.

Does anyone have experience with this vehicle?

I’m intrigued by it.

Possibly by your named description---Mach E Mustang SUV--- I am assume that model is one of the future models that will save our planet because of the electric vehicle agenda.... Personally you could not pay me to take it . ........................ drill sgt.

Mouse power isn't what it used to be.

I like the Mach E, the Mustang name on it gets some up in arms, just like the Cayenne did to Porsche enthusiasts, and it's a top seller, seems momma wanted a Porsche too.

Big issue is price, like all EV they are way over priced for what you get, GT or CA editions with long range are over $60K, which is stupid high.

My buddy's wife has a Mach E SUV. My buddy raves about the acceleration and the braking. To be fair, it's a 2nd vehicle and they take his car on road trips.

Last fall, I had an electric SUV as a rental car and it showed me the folly of electric vehicles as primary vehicles. I had to watch YouTube to be able to fuel it, and I had to download an app to be able to fuel it. The 120V charger was 58 hours to full charge so I was forced to look for charging stations with 230/240 Volt. There are two kinds of 230/240 volt charging - the kind like you'd install in your garage is 8 or 9 hours for full charge, and some of the commercial fast charge ones are still ~2 hours. I had to eat at a certain restaurant that had a charging station (the 8 or 9 hour version) as neither my hotel nor the office I was visitng had charging. PITA.

An EV as a 2nd vehicle would take away nearly all of the downside. If somebody would produce an all electric or hybrid electric small convertible (e.g. Miata) that was fast, light, cost effective, and torquey then I'd consider it as a second vehicle.

I wonder what happens when mice built a nest and chew the wires in an electric vehicle?

What happens with all of the electric vehicles when you have a mandatory evacuation order to vacate say certain areas that are being threatned by say massive fires or possibly incoming hurricanes or even massive winter storms causing massive traffic jams ....Where are these vehicles supposed to be able to find adaquate charging stations both for actual number of vehicles as well as charge rate time frame needed?????..... It is bad enough now just trying to fuel up the gasoline/diesel powered that are on the road now when some of the above mentioned events occur. ................................................................... drill sgt

Personally I would never and I mean never willingly buy a pure EV. A hybrid which this might be could interest me. Pure dependence on electricity is nonsense in my mind. And unlike the Cayenne which lives under the car makers NAME (Porsche makes numerous models not just the 911), this thing is no more a Mustang than your Escape is, hence the backlash.

That is only one of the problems that have been completely ignored by those who would shove EVs down our collective throat.

My son and I are part of the “up in arms group” of Mustang owners. I despise the look of these things and they (Ford) have besmirched the Mustang and Mach nameplates.

It may be out of my control but I don’t have to like it!

I’m not trying to save the planet or anything.

I’m retired and I don’t drive very much anymore.

I have solar panels and a double Tesla battery wall on the house, so I can drive for zero cost on the electricity.

I have not even test driven one yet.

Part of what intrigued was the fact that the inside of the car did remind me of my Escape that I have always liked.

The electric only car does give pause.

It won’t be the only car.

Pretty much sounds like an ideal usage of an electric car. When you do drive, is it long distance or short? Highway or urban?

I’d suggest looking at a Model Y as well.

Tesla’s charging network is a big benefit, if you do need to travel a long distance.

I actually saw one the other day and was kind of confused what it was. Badged like a Mustang but i did not know until this thread they were now offering this SUV model. Also did not know it was EV.

I liked it and if my wife wanted it for her car I would buy one. She rarely drives more than 50 miles from our house. In the event of a hurricane (I live in S. FL.) it would be an advantage. Before the storm long lines and short supplies are the norm and after a storm the same or worse. We have a whole house generator so keeping her car charged would be no problem, easier than finding gas.

It would not work for me as we take my car when we do road trips 3 or 4 times a year and as stated the charging station thing is a no go.


It can work well for some people depending on their circumstances. It is not a tool of the devil just because some progressives want to make it mandatory for everyone. That is the evil. But I would not reject it out of hand just because of that.
