Just curious how others think. For example, in 9mm, I have several K in range ammo, and only about 120 rounds of quality personal defense ammo. It's not something I see myself using a ton of, and I could always substitute for cheap-o 115gr 9mm if I had to (I know, it's not effective, but it's better than a pointy stick)

A few hundred of each pistol caliber, including shotgun ammo. Much more for rifle ammo, plus the ability to load quite a bit by hand if needed.

Sorry, lost it all in a boating accident

Before I joined this forum... I didn't even know what defensive ammo was. Winchester white box was all I knew. For my shotguns, it was mostly trap rounds with a few boxes for hunting.
Now... well, buy it by the case and stack it deep!

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

Hmmm - I don't have an exact count. But I've probably got 1,000 - 1,500 in "self defense" rounds of various calibers.

And much, much more in FMJ "range ammo."

A year or so back I ordered what I thought was 500 rounds of .45 HST, but it turned out to 1000 rounds, so there's that. Then a few hundred 9mm 124gr HST with a couple boxes of 124gr Gold Dots mixed in. I think there's a box of .38Spl 135gr Gold Dots in there somewhere, too. And about 600 rounds of 5.56 64gr Gold Dots, plus a crapload of M193 and M855.

500 cant imagine using more then that thru a pistol unless we have a long battle, guessing 10 reloaded range ammo,

The self defense ammo just sits there as it's just to expensive to blast steel targets with.

2000 rounds of the good stuff. Slightly less now because I run it through some guns to ensure no issues. 124 grain standard pressure evenly split between HST and Gold Dot. It will basically last a lifetime. I guess I could add more in good times but I’m not an end of the world guy, I just want to be prepared for blips in society.

As a handloader, I guess I have more than adequate supply of all ammo. As far as factory defense ammo, I have all of the calibers covered quite well, as it rarely gets shot at the range.

Not sure. Have some in all the calibers I have firearms in. Probably should add more 9mm when the current panic subsides and prices get better as I think I’m under a case and that is what I carry. At least every year, sometimes every six months, I shoot the carry rounds in the pistol and the spare mag, then reload with fresh after cleaning post range session. It is nice to confirm that the 124+P Gold Dots still work as expected, don’t print noticeably different from my training/practice ammunition, and I haven’t bathed them in enough sweat to hurt their functionality.

I never used to keep more than a couple 50 rd boxes of each caliber. Then along came obama, the best thing to happen to firearm and ammunition sales. I'll never be without again...

I keep about 2,000 rounds of defensive ammo on hand, about half of that is .223. Next time ammo prices drop I plan to bring that amout up to 5,000 rounds, or more.

I also have 200 lbs. of once fired brass.

Ideally I would like a minimum of 10k of defensive ammo, 30k in practice ammo, and plenty of reloading components on hand at all times.
