? Did you look at the map? Sac Co. is apart of New California. Old Cali would be Marin Co. South to LA Co. Unfortunately, Monterey, San Luis and Santa Barbara Counties which were solidly purple during the 90's have leaned blue the last 3-elections. Wouldn't take many conservatives to move-in there to re-tilt those counties towards red. | |||

This is a great idea, but the elephant in the living room is California's crushing debt. The left will want the new state to take their "fair share" of the debt. Arguing about what that is shouldn't take more than two or three generations. Better off praying for the San Andreas fault to launch the coast into 500 feet of ocean. | |||

I don't know about that. Seems to me that most of the infrastructure and services would have been provided in the area that's being seceded from. And then you throw in the fact that what's left (nyerk, nyerk) will be left with the overwhelming majority of rich people in California now, and simple equity should take a fair amount of what's divided off of the table. | |||

Both new states would be paying it through tax revenues or through bonds secured by tax revenues. Neither side can get away from that, and neither side can do anything about it. Those with the tax base and the taste for Cadillac living will simply have to pay for the Cadillac living themselves in the future. There's no reason to think that isn't an equitable division of past debt as well. | |||

You realize that that the lib part is the likes of Pelosi and Finestein. I don't remember ever hearing either one use the word "equitable". That said, I don't have a dog in this fight, wouldn't go to California on a bet and have NO respect for the clowns who run that asylum. | |||

Understood. Think of various forms of equity as being ego boosters for a lot of Californians. They've been conditioned to think that way - "hey, the state's giving more money to poor people, so I'm a good person just by living here!". That's been going on for so long that a PR campaign run by the seceders might actually be somewhat effective. | |||

The map that the New Californians have been circulating has the counties in the I-80 corridor east to and including Sacramento County going to the libs. Interesting that San Diego is part of the separatist's side. I suppose the USN presence may have something to do with that. However fat chance of San Jose and Silicon Valley going rogue. Way too many libs in the young working end of the tech sector. I would love for this to happen, but I certainly won't hold my breath waiting for it to become reality. Not likely in my lifetime, but this would probably come to fruition AFTER the San Andreas goes postal and breaks Commiefornia into its own version of Cuba, only without the superb cigar tobacco and a hella lot newer expensive cars. EDIT: WA State could use a similar purge. But that would probably take that impending subduction zone shaker as well before such wishful thinking notions happen. | |||

People in both the silicon and movie industries have been known to either do buisness or set up buisnesses in lower-tax states like Texas, so I wouldn't be at all surprised to see them set up buisnesses just over the (new) state border for tax purposes alone. There's only so much you can do with oil, and only so much the part of California that's left will do with oil. The wine industry can be expanded; Napa isn't the only place wine is grown in California now. The fun part is going to be ports, and there are two ways to look at that. First, existing ports still need buisness and the part of California that's left cannot discriminate against shipments originating out-of-state. Second, ports in both LA and SeaTac are notoriously slow, expensive and prone to both theft and labor BS, so there will be incentives for smaller ports to operate, new ports to be put in place, and existing ports to compete with each other for New California's buisness. Heck, the biggest thing far NE New California would have going for it is a lovely little road into Oregon, Idaho and Nevada - any of which can provide transshipment points. | |||

^^^ You do realize that most new states' constitutions and other documents are based off of the federal versions, and that the federal declaration and constitution drew heavily from sources in the first thirteen states, right? It's not only an easy place to start, it helps create the right impression in the rest of the country. | |||
