What are the odds?

1) suboptimal drain pipe routing
2) too much soap
3) installation related issue
4) product failure
5) other

I’m curious what the failure really turns out to be. Might be good to know someday.

When things don’t work I assume that I’m doing something wrong. After I go through steps to eliminate that possibility, I call the retailer or the manufacturer and try and get something done. I’m pissed off for sure, but I can’t imagine blaming people that tried to help me because my item wasn’t perfect. If the washer broke down a few years from now, would the advising members still be at fault because it didn’t last an eternity?

My set is going on ten trouble free years so I’d like to know what went wrong.

I could be wrong, but is sounds like the OP unpacked and installed the unit himself. We paid $120 for our Speed Queen system delivery and install from a mom & pop store we patronized for appliances in the DFW area. Needless to say, the delivery, placement, install, and testing of the units was flawless from the in-house techs, very professional. And not one single issue in nine years.

The initial meltdown was ridiculous and uncalled for. And then, the “amended” original post to lessen the “nastiness” toward members is just as comical.

Shit happens, everything ever mass manufactured will end up with some lemons. Manufacturers anticipate it.

I’m one who passed on my buddy’s/former brother’s-in-law recommendation of SQ, and I will pass the OP’s experience on to him.

We purchased a house a couple of months ago, and we had to get all new appliances. My buddy, being Mr Consumer Reports and now a retired general contractor from the Bellaire/West University/Southside Place/River Oaks/Memorial areas of Houston - all upscale, gave me the lowdown from his experience and reading. As for washers and dryers, the had to be SQ…just not the one that wasn’t the commercial level.

Personally, my hands were tied getting a GE due to my mother-in-law, who moved in with us, and my wife not liking just how plain and industrial the SQ appeared. Additionally, the extra cost and the fact my MIL was paying for all of our appliances sealed the deal.

In reference to GE over the other makes/brands there at Home Depot, the sales lady told us that GE had, by far, the fewest returns/repairs due to hard water, which have here in the Texas Hill Country.

To sum it up for me, who wanted to take the recommendation of my buddy, we went with GE because it looked better than SQ, was being paid for by my MIL, both the units had clear doors, the price was better than SQ, especially the GE’s being on sale, and the reported resistance to hard water damage.

My wife and MIL like the GE units, after two months, but their only complaint, so far, is the washer’s agitation sound is annoying and loud. A simple closing of the washroom door fixes that.

OP, good luck getting proper service with your SQ units. I wouldn’t doubt that after they are brought properly online, they will get you happily down the road.

Btw yes I’m still here. The original unit is finally being authorized for a return by store I bought it from.

Mrs DF and I bought a new washer/dryer set a couple of years ago. The washer acted up immediately. I called the customer service line and they sent out a technician. Dude was there for 10 minutes and said, “Okay, you’re all set” No charge.

Turns out the dealer didn’t remove the shipping bolts which I guess is their responsibility. I had never had that problem before. Anyway, things happen. There are a lot of links in the chain from manufacturer to buyer.

The only issue that I've had with mine is that the inlet screen will get plugged up from all the iron in my water from time to time and I need to clean it out. Aside from that, it has been trouble free for thirteen years now.

Also, after Home Depot guy installed the Samsung refrigerator and the GE washer and dryer, all was well with the world…until we noticed water on the floor of the washroom.

After I got to inspect it, I saw the water was leaking from the house connection or the valve, but since I wasn’t up on the latest push/pull valves, I didn’t know how to turn it off.

The call center said they would put it in their system, but couldn’t say when someone was coming out. I was hoping it was a local call to the HD installation crew, so since I got no immediate help, YT was my friend with the new fangled valve design. A simple turn off and a hose tightening fixed’er right up.

Actually they did tell me sorry it took so long to authorize it. Managers were off Saturday.
