And has for years! I posted an item here several years ago about a package I had ordered. AIR, it took some 14 days to finally arrive here. I was tracking it, and most of that time was spent bouncing that package back and forth between the same 2 processing center. It got to be an ongoing joke/drama here on the forum.

Absolutely.

We've (work) had hundreds of mailpieces 'lost' by the USPS in the last 2 months - and it's getting worse by the day.

Even items with tracking are lost, never to be seen again...or show up 10 days after they were supposed to, without any tracking in between the last sighting and delivery.

I just had a package delivered to me that supposedly went from NY to NJ to UT to KY to PA to NJ to MD to WV back to MD. The Utah zip code apparently doesn't exist - even the USPS website says location unknown. I searched it and came up with a thread on Reddit where that zip was identified as the 'lost parcel' site - not where actual packages go, but where scans of hard-to-read or damaged labels are sent to see if they can figure out where the heck they're supposed to go. I finally did receive the package and the seller's label was intact, undamaged and perfectly readable. Oh, and the address was correct, too.

I've had 2 packages, thankfully with insurance, never appear on my end. USPS doesn't have a clue and can't give the sellers any information. Both were denied their initial claim, but both got a consumer affairs rep involved and the claims were allowed once they figured out the packages 'disappeared.' I think someone at eBay gave them that tip.

A customer just called us last Thursday - he'd gotten a package with his April purchase that day, the one we mailed on March 5th. He called on March 26 and we reshipped his package that same day. He received that one on Mar 31. He couldn't figure out why we'd sent him a second April package at the end of July - until we had him look at the date on the metered postage print.

New Postmaster General. His direct orders are delaying mail.

I ordered some guitar parts two weeks ago from a local place. Order shipped on Monday from Tempe to Cave Creek. Thurs. tracking showed it in Yuma. It arrived Friday after a 400 mile detour.

Last Thurs. I shipped a watch to my dad in NJ via USPS 2 day priority mail. Sat. it said it was in Albuquerque, but would be delivered by 8pm that night. Then it said by midnight. Now it says it's is south Jersey. I have my doubts.

I haven't had any negative experiences lately. Last Wednesday, in the evening, I placed an order from Shop Colt. I received the order today via USPS. I was satisfied.

My understanding though is that the new PMG has ordered an elimination of overtime with subsequently delayed mail. Not a good plan in my opinion.

It's Trump's fault Roll Eyes

The U.S. Postal Service is bracing for a myriad of changes, including slashing overtime pay for workers and the potential for delayed mail deliveries for customers due to multibillion-dollar revenue losses during the coronavirus pandemic.

Late trips will no longer be authorized. If postal distribution centers are running late, "they will keep the mail for the next day,'' postal service leaders say in a document obtained by The Associated Press.

Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-N.J., said DeJoy's new proposal to stall mail deliveries would be a "stunning act of sabotage against our postal service.”

“Trump and his cronies are openly seeking to destroy the post office during the worst public health crisis in a century,'' Pascrell said.

With states increasingly relying on voting by mail to continue elections during the pandemic, destabilizing the postal service not only threatens the economy and the jobs of 600,000 workers but is also "a direct attack on American democracy itself,'' Pascrell said.

Saturday morning I priority mailed a Ruger cylinder to a guy who lives in a little town in NC. I live in a rural area of far west Texas. The cylinder was delivered Monday. So fast. Color me astonished.

On the other hand, a package mailed to me on April 8th arrived July 8th. Three months.

Trying to predict shipping times is seemingly an exercise in futility, these days.

Funny how that works, tho some are arriving so late I almost have to pay late fees.

I have not had any real problems with USPS, but I’m in a small town. However, after reading this thread, my AK sight tool was supposed to arrive today and I made a 5 mile round trip to the PO to get it and it wasn’t there. Hope it gets here soon as my new AK shoots low and I have no way to adjust the front sight. Sigh...

The Dems are not only trying to steal the election through fraudulent voting by mail... but setting it up to argue it's the postal service's fault if they don't win. This will make Bush v. Gore look like a smooth election.

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

I shipped a 1K plus box of cigars to HK. Tracking showed it left Miami for HK 5 weeks ago. Since then, nothing. No insurance per the buyer.

I hate USPS.

I'm kinda sure this was said in humor. However in our corner of the planet, we've had problems receiving bills at home. We've had a couple of problems getting bill payments to their destination.

I'm going to guess that it's more about sheer volume of mail than it is about dishonest postal workers. With so many people stuck at home, a lot of online buying is taking place. During a time of year that USPS doesn't have a lot of temporary help lying around, certainly not like they do around the holiday season where they can predictably ramp up for Christmas. So yeah, COVID did catch them unprepared. And it's not just them; foreign postal services are just as bad if not worse. I've had several international packages take far longer to arrive than normal, and I'm still waiting on some parts out of Japan that I ordered months back from a trusted source, who's been just as frustrated by their USPS counterpart in that country.

FedEx and UPS may be a more expensive means of shipping, but by and large they've been reliable during these times. Not perfect, mind you; we had at least one customer have their FFL transfer "misdirected" by UPS, but they did track down their mistake and got it to us a couple of days later.

Mrs. John1 runs a small contract Post Office (she's not a USPS employee, but an independent contractor) with a contract rural mail route as well.

Since retirement I've helped her by taking over the route portion so we're both sort of familiar with our tiny part of the whole system.

The pandemic has had a major impact on the USPS and monoblok hit the nail on the head in his post above.

What we're seeing is Christmas-like volume almost every day now from the people at home on-line shopping all day long. Add amazon USPS sure post and it's fricking nuts. Get a few upstream at the General Mail Facility out sick and it's got to be pretty overwhelming.

For God's sake open the state and put these people back to work so they can take the wife in the truck and go to WalMart every two weeks. But that's not going to happen now that they've popped their cherries on ordering everything on line...

You may well be correct here.

Not related to mail-in ballots, I read today that NV passed a law that votes can be harvested from those with dementia, without their or their families knowledge.

Get ready to see the USPS get even worse. UPS notified some of their largest accounts that they had given large discounts to, to the point they are no longer profitable, that they have 30 days to find a new carrier. FedEx isn't going to take them if they were unprofitable at UPS. Its about to get really exciting in the transportation industry. All carriers are maxed out right now and we're 3.5 months away from "peak season"

My folks live on an island off NJ and are without power. My dad, who has TDS, swears the watch I sent him is being delayed by Trump's order to screw up all USPS operations in an effort to discredit any attempt to implement voting by mail. We're doomed.

It seems the USPS can't find the missing car part. So given the cost of the missing shipments plus the cost of shipping, I am out ~$550 in the last month.

They admitted they lost one package, told me to file a claim, which I did. They denied the claim.

Yes, insurance is through USPS, who also gets to decide which claims are approved and which are not. Roll Eyes

If they weren't already losing money, it would be a good racket!
