Massive spending increases in $1.3-trillion budget bill

House negotiators worked far into the night last night before agreeing on a 2,232-page, $1.3-trillion omnibus spending bill that vastly increases domestic and military spending while denying the president much of his border wall money and leaving the DREAMers in limbo.

Congress must pass a budget bill by tomorrow or risk a partial government shutdown. House Republican leadership says Trump has signed off on the legislation, despite the huge increases and less than expected money for the wall.

Leaders still hoped to start voting as soon as Thursday. A stopgap measure may be needed to ensure federal offices aren't hit with a partial shutdown at midnight Friday when funding for the government expires.

Negotiators have been working for days – and nights – on details of the bill, which is widely viewed as the last major piece of legislation likely to move through Congress in this election year. Lawmakers in both parties sought to attach their top priorities.

Two of the biggest remaining issues had been border wall funds and a legislative response to gun violence after the clamor for action following recent school shootings, including the one in Parkland, Florida.

On guns, leaders tentatively agreed to tuck in bipartisan provisions to bolster school safety funds and improve compliance with the criminal background check system for firearm purchases. The bill states that the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention can do research on gun violence, though not advocacy, an idea Democrats pushed.

But there was no resolution for Dreamers, the young immigrants [sic] who have been living in the United States illegally since childhood, but whose deportation protections are being challenged in court after Trump tried to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, or DACA.

Lou Dobbs spoke for many when he called GOP lawmakers "lazy" and "deceitful":

Despite what Dobbs says, it's not just the establishment Republicans who are giving in. They may be largely responsible for this travesty. But conservatives appear not to want to rock the boat and get blamed for a shutdown.

There's a chance enough House Republicans will refuse to vote for this mess. Democrats are already making noises about the lack of resolution for the DREAMer issue. Unless 30-35 Democrats can be convinced to vote for the bill, it will be back to the drawing board. Passage is by no means certain.

Budget deficits don't matter. The debt doesn't matter. Responsible governance doesn't matter. And they wonder why we hate Washington?

House Votes On $1.3 Trillion Omnibus Spending Bill

House Republicans confirmed to CNN on Thursday that they will begin voting on the 2,000 page omnibus spending bill at 12:30 pm. The voting should be concluded by 1 pm.

With House Freedom Caucus Leader Mark Meadows opposing the bill after tentatively embracing the deal last night, Republican leaders struck a last-minute deal with Democrats to win their support for a procedural vote that would allow them to proceed to the final vote.

Steny Hoyer, the No. 2 Democrat in the House, managed to squeeze some notable concessions from Republicans at the last minute. Chief among them: A "queen of the Hill" rule on immigration, meaning that GOP leaders would agree to bring up several immigration measures and the one that gets the most votes would prevail.

OMB Director Mick Mulvaney told reporters Trump will sign the omnibus bill - assuming it does, in fact, pass.

As we pointed out last night when the tentative deal was reached, the bill includes notable concessions from Republicans on their border-security package, which allocates funding for a border fence, but not the wall Trump had envisioned. This bothered Trump, prompting him to nearly withdraw his support.

Laura Ingraham said President Trump is appearing to consent to the passage of a $1.3 trillion omnibus spending bill championed by GOP leadership.

The bill, more than two thousand pages long, is up for debate this week ahead of a government funding deadline.

Ingraham said the Republicans are combining with Democrats and consider the huge bill "business as usual" on Capitol Hill, in opposition to the principles Trump pushed as a candidate.

A small fraction of the bill is devoted to border security, while Planned Parenthood and sanctuary cities continue to be funded.

"[Trump] won [by] calling out the establishment," Ingraham said. "Where did 'that' Donald Trump go?"

Ingraham said the spending bill is forcing America to further borrow money from Germany, China and Japan.

"Take this opportunity tonight to challenge the GOP leadership," Ingraham said.

Although this bill is madness, it isn’t THAT unhinged.

This won't stop at all. I've stopped expecting it to and getting upset about it.

My focus for the last several years has been preparing myself and my family for when this all comes home to roost.

No, I'm not stocking up on canned food and ammo. I don't think that's how you be prepared. I'm preparing by eliminating debt and saving up my cash.

Look at Detroit. That place was a ghost town a few years ago. Detroit has 6 billionaires in it. Those 6 guys have bought up a huge percentage of the city and are now developing it. They're going to make a killing.

That's my plan on a much smaller scale. Houses will be upside down, they won't be able to sell cars, people will be in debt and loosing their jobs, credit will be next to impossible to get...you get the idea.

that's when I'll be buying with cash and building my holdings. When the shitshow eventually corrects itself, I'll be sitting on a small empire all paid for in cash with pennies on the dollar.

Just a hunch, but that's my "prepping effort."

SWAMP Wins: House Passes Omnibus

Congress has completely and totally abdicated its responsibilities in utilizing the power of the purse. It has allowed career politicians and lobbyists to completely cave on any sense of fiscal responsibility and throw at the American public an abomination of a spending bill that does nothing the Republicans who are supposedly in power claimed they would do.

It's beyond hope or any ability to be resolved.
