Agreed, I believe in free market but gas companies use any excuse to drive up prices and profits. They seem to forget that virtually everything is dependent and influenced by fuel costs.

I'm personally tired of watching gas prices rise when a refinery that has no connection to this area has a problem.

It's time for some regulation to stop this and help get inflation under control.
Michigan has one 144,000 barrels per day refinery and that is its crude oil processing capability. If it's operating industry leading efficiency (big if), it perhaps could refine that crude oil into 72,000 barrels per day of gasoline but industry average would be 65,000. The rest will be diesel, jet, kerosene, etc. The last number that EIA had for Michigan was it consumed 103,000 barrels per day of gasoline.

In other words, Michigan's refining capacity is short 31,000 to 38,000 barrels per day of gasoline so refineries out of state are making up for it. Some comes from Texas, but much of it comes from the Chicago area and Toledo.

Wawa jacked up the price like 69 cents within literally two days but has generously reduced the price today by two whole cents, from $3.69 to $3.67 Roll Eyes

I'm now actively avoiding them because no one else is pulling this crap.

When I was on my way home this morning, regular was $3.19/gal. I don't know what premium was (which is what my car takes) but I was too tired to stop and I had half a tank.

When I got up after the meteor impact shook my house, I left home and regular gas went up to $3.79/gal and we got a bunch of snow from somewhere.

All due to the state's gas tax. Add the fact that they closed all the refineries...

US supplies of gasoline are being shipped out of the country to travel thousands of miles via the Bahamas before finally ending up in California, a state battling shrinking fuel making capacity and high pump prices.
