I filled up consecutive Thursdays and the price went up $0.20 a gallon. I did see something new which was franchisee with a 5.5% credit card fee which is well outside of the normal 1.5% to 3.5%.

I normally see a bigger price difference between Houston, the midwest, and northeast with Houston being the oil & gas capitol of the Western hemisphere and surrounded by refineries. That price difference has shrunk.

I filled up my minivan last Friday for $94.03. For my wife's Nissan, around $70. I filled up my old 911 for $81 almost two weeks ago.

Our gas is $1.00-1.50 more per gallon that the national average.

$175 to fill up my cans with 90 rec gas for the lawn mower, saw, and SXS, and 7.5 gallons of diesel for the tractor. I believe the gas was $5.19 and diesel $5.79.

Prices will continue to escalate until demand diminishes. Why would any business do otherwise?

US Crude Oil Production Sets New Record in 2025

The output increase came despite lower rig counts and fewer wells being drilled.

Crude oil output in the United States reached a new annual record last year, growing by 3 percent to hit 13.6 million barrels per day (b/d), the Energy Information Administration (EIA) said in a March 31 statement.

“Production from the Lower 48 states excluding the Gulf of America (L48) accounted for 11.3 million b/d, or 83 percent of the total U.S. crude oil production in 2025. The rest of the production came from Federal Gulf of America (GOA) and Alaska,” the agency said.

The higher oil production last year came despite lower rig counts and drilling of fewer wells. The number of active rigs per month in the L48 region was 5 percent less in 2025 than in 2024, with 1 percent fewer wells getting drilled, according to the EIA.

Despite these challenges, production efficiency improvements enabled higher oil output.

Region-wise, “the Permian, Eagle Ford, and Bakken are the most prolific crude oil production regions, accounting for almost two-thirds of total U.S. production,” the EIA said.

“In 2025, the Permian region in western Texas and southeastern New Mexico produced more crude oil than any other region, accounting for 48 percent of total U.S. crude oil production. Most of the annual U.S. crude oil production growth in 2025 also came from the Permian, where production grew by 280,000 b/d to 6.6 million b/d.”

In an April 1 statement, the Department of the Interior said that offshore oil production in the United States totaled 714 million barrels last year, which it said was the “highest annual output on record.”

The department attributed the high output levels to new projects entering production and other offshore developments, especially in the Gulf of America regions. According to interior officials, policy changes aimed at improving regulatory efficiency and providing greater certainty for energy developers have incentivized the acceleration of investments in offshore projects.

“President Trump has made it clear that America should fully develop its abundant energy resources in a way that strengthens our economy and benefits American families,” Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum said.

“By providing regulatory certainty, streamlining processes and encouraging responsible development, this administration is unlocking the full potential of our domestic energy resources—supporting job creation, lowering energy prices, strengthening energy security and maintaining strong safety and environmental protections.”

As for this year, the EIA is expecting total U.S. crude oil production to average 13.6 million b/d, the same as last year, according to a March 9 report from the agency. In 2027, output is expected to rise to 13.8 million b/d.

A recent survey of oil and gas companies showed that in the top two production regions where they are active, the entities require West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil prices to average $43 per barrel to cover operating expenses of existing wells, the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas said in a March 25 report.

“Across regions, the average price necessary to cover operating expenses ranges from $34 to $47 per barrel. All respondents can cover operating expenses for existing wells at current prices,” the report said.

WTI oil futures prices ended Thursday at above $111 per barrel.

To be profitable enough to drill a new well, the companies need WTI prices to average $66 per barrel, the survey found.

Meanwhile, gasoline prices at the pump have surged across America amid the ongoing U.S.–Israel war against Iran.

On March 31, the national average retail price for regular gas exceeded $4 per gallon, the first time prices breached the level since August 2022 after Russia had invaded Ukraine, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA).
Regular gas prices averaged $4.09 per gallon nationally as of April 3, up from $3.10 a month back, AAA data show. In California, Hawaii, and Washington, prices have exceeded $5 per gallon.

The Trump administration has taken steps to control gas prices, temporarily allowing Russian and Iranian crude oil and petroleum stranded at sea to be sold. The United States also announced the phased release of 172 million barrels of oil from the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

Amen. Or making $1,000 car/truck payments on a behemoth or luxury vehicle.

Knowing what one is talking about is widely admired but not strictly required here.

I’ve stated this before here, I do not drive any more than is needed. So, gas prices are irrelevant since I go where I need to go and I am not driving for leisure. Some people drive a lot for their living so I know it can greatly increase costs but I do not even pay attention to what it cost to fill up either of my 4Runners.

In reality I am waiting for fuel to go higher so prices of large, big engine trucks will drop so i can pick one up. I’d like to get a Dodge or Ford with a V10.

I had new inexpensive wheels put on my new DD at Discount Tire about 10 days ago. I’ll sell the OEM rims and it’ll almost be a wash. Just dropping unsprung weight for handling, and range. About 8 pounds per corner in unsprung mass decrease. An African man (from Africa from his accent) came over to the car and was asking 20 questions about it. He was straight up bitching. He said he has to fill up with gas to the tune of $108 every 2 days. I asked him what he drove and it was a late spec Tundra and IIRC that has a twin turbo V6. I told him he needed a daily driver. Something small and efficient. He said “I own cows” to which I replied “Are you towing them around in a trailer everyday?” Obviously he said no. Then it was more questions about range, cost, etc. I’m standing there thinking dude I got shit to do. Go to a stealer, or go do some research. When I told him what I paid for the car I literally thought he was going to fall over in disbelief.

The behometh or expensive luxury vehicle couldn’t be more accurate. You can get a used EV, for less than 1/2 of the average new car cost in America. Very low miles. You could get a cheap gas commuter type vehicle, new or used. Nope, they want to “floss” with their behometh or expensive luxury vehicle, and neither gets any kind of decent MPG. Wanna “floss” while running typical errands like grocery trips, etc, then pay for it. And quit bitching. I’ve got gas vehicles and I’m not running them much right now. And I’ll take some expensive gas, for the time being, vs. a middle eastern country having nuclear warheads and launching one at one of our cities. Some of these people couldn’t pour piss from a boot.

I started a new side-business (evenings & weekends) last June, which has been keeping me busy. Lots of demand, which I'm really thankful for! I burn about 50 gallons of diesel per week in my 2004 2500HD Duramax towing a 8,000 - 10,000 lb trailer. Before the Iran conflict diesel was about $3.30 per gallon. It's now slightly under $5.00 in my area. At 50 gallons per week that's about $85 in additional costs. I actually raised my prices Jan 1 by $25 per customer as I was a little on the low side.

I'm absorbing the additional fuel cost.

I belong to some FB groups for people who are in the same industry. Most are full time operators and some are adding a fuel surcharge. I hate surcharges. I list my "all-in" price on my website and don't add any additional fees. When folks call I specifically mention my website price is the price you pay. No additional charges. If I have to I will raise my prices $5 - $10, but still not add any "surcharges". When I see folks talking about adding surcharges I just shake my head. If your margins are that tight, chances are your prices are too low to begin with.

Lower prices are obviously more money in my pocket, but it is what it is. I'm glad we don't have Europe level prices in the U.S! I still have good margins even with the increased fuel costs.

Texas Record Oil Production Stabilizing US Supply Amid War

Last year's record oil production in West Texas has helped the United States supply remain stable despite stockpiles facing a tight squeeze around the world because of the war in Iran, according to experts.

Nearly half of all oil produced in the United States in 2025 came from Texas, even though fewer new oil wells were drilled, The Texas Tribune reported on Thursday.

According to Texas Oil and Gas Association President Todd Staples, 10 years ago, Texas oil companies produced 9.2 million barrels of oil per day using 1,543 rigs.
