Some problems with their methods. Here in KY, they just toss all ccw holders names out every month or two. Has nothing to do with purchases, but instead is a check to see if we've been good boys and girls, seeking convictions for things they don't like. While many dealers set up at gun shows and any buyers must see if they have the governments permission to buy another, most sales are private individual sales. Unhappy ammo seeker | |||

Very true. When I was a resident of The Great State Of Maine I once picked up 12 firearms from my FFL at once. I had been overseas for a bit and had been buying guns online. 7 rifles and 5 handguns. I filled out the 4473 and he called it in for the proceed number. All firearms and serial numbers were listed on the form and he sent a "multiple handgun" purchase form to the Maine State Police that day. But there was only one NICS check number. An extreme case yes, but now that I call NC home with my CCW I don't even need a NICS check. So the numbers are definitely low. | |||

In other words, the S.A. Survey has made a wild stab in the dark but we the media approve of the numbers cited. In fact we could add all of the production and import figures since they first were reported to the feds together, subtract a few for lost, destroyed, and missing and still it would only have a wild guess. Who here would care to estimate the number of guns privately held from before the Feds started keeping records? A gun is a very durable piece of hardware and I confess to having at least one oldie in my position. Surveys are a joke---who here would give an honest answer to such a survey? | |||
