Why does the battery in the smoke detector die at 3am instead of 3pm?

Or, why do you always get a flat going to somewhere important, not on the way home?

I had time to think of these things as I changed out the battery in my smoke detector this am. Frown

Bart: Alright, we'll settle this like men, with our fists.
Hedley Lamarr: Sorry, I just remembered . . . I am armed.

Why do they call the barrel twist 'rifling' on a rifle and not 'pistoling' on a handgun?

The internal resistance of the battery increases in a lower temperature environment. Resulting in lower voltage being read by the detector during the night.

You were driving faster to get there, resulting in higher temperatures that would degrade the tire compound due to any preexisting defects or damage.

Rifling is a process and a design. Unrelated to the final production nomenclature.

Yeah, why come all you guys ask me that? Hmmmm...

Later we can discuss capacitance coupling, as I have no answer for the click bait stuff. Wink

Okay, at the risk of being flamed to cinders, I'm going to say out loud what I've been thinking for some time now:

What's the big deal about "click bait"? Click on it, see that it isn't something you're interested in, click away. Elapsed time: 10 seconds if you're a slow reader.

Get over it.

OK, not really. Just kidding.

The batteries in my smoke alarms always seem to crap out between about 1:30 to 2:45 am. Mad

One of the random thoughts that go through my mind while changing out the battery is: 'what's the flap for in BDU pants?' Big Grin

I've drafted, re-worded and deleted several answers. Probably counter-productive to go there.
