You ever see that show Snake City? He catches Mambas, cobras, all kinds of snakes in cars and houses. Talk about intense. Let all Men know thee, but no man know thee thoroughly: Men freely ford that see the shallows. Benjamin Franklin

I spend a couple weeks up in Korat in late 1990 inspecting ammo. I was, er...concerned about snakes but never saw a single one.

Yes through the A/C system. One of my customers keeps an old infinity G35 at the marina, rats got into it exactly that way, if a rat can get in there, so can a snake.

Snakes follow the scent of rodents they predate on for food. It's perfectly normal behavior for them to track their prey to interiors of residences, garages, and vehicles parked outside. It's not unusual at all for pack-rats and other rodents to enter engine compartments, chew up wiring and nest in vehicle interiors. I had a car that was in repair for several weeks due after the driver of a VW bus hastily bailed out of his burning vehicle, leaving it close enough to my parked car to cause extensive damage. When I got my Honda Prelude back, I found that a rat(s) had filled the space under the dashboard with dry dog food, apparently pilfered from the bowl of the K9 that "protected" the repair facility's parking lot at night. In another incident, my wife heard a tremendous amount of racket under the hood of her car, after it had been parked in our driveway for a few days. A ground squirrel apparently took up residence there, but didn't fare well when the engine stared up as it was resting near the fan blade. When my wife took the car to the dealership to check out the "funny noise", the mechanic warned her that she didn't want to see the results and noted that a steam cleaning was strongly proscribed to deal with the mess. Considering the location of the OP (TN), it's highly likely that the snake in question is a harmless ratsnake. Finding it (if it's still inside the car) might prove difficult once it's moved from the engine compartment, but it's also possible that a competent body repair shop could locate and remove it easily, from the area behind your dashboard, if it's not simply in the passenger compartment. I thought they were danger noodles? Anyhoo... Mrs.BurtonRW (and I) would identify it and assuming non-venemous, not give it a second thought - except maybe to coax it into the wild (or a nearby shrub) somewhere for its own safety. But to put that in context, we have a pet Ball Python. In fact, I have to pick up some mice on the way home. -Rob I predict that there will be many suggestions and statements about the law made here, and some of them will be spectacularly wrong. - jhe888 A=A

We referred to Korat as the home of the king cobra. I understand there has been much development since I was there in 1973 so a lot of the snakes were probably displaced. I have many snake stories from my time in SEA CMSGT USAF (Retired) Chief of Police (Retired)
