One year shortly after we moved down here, she was driving to town, and heard a buzzing from the back. She pulled over, and when she opened the rear hatch, there was a small rattlesnake, pissed as all hell. She managed to get the stick she used to keep the hatch open, and coaxed it out of the back.
Never did figure out how it got in, but seems to me those Cherokees can be kinda porous.
Good luck with your new snake friend, and be careful.
Doors and windows closed? Highly unlikely. Doors open? Quite possible. Windows open? Unlikely.
I know a guy who was surprised while driving by a snake coming out from underneath his dash. He had left his doors open when he stopped to inspect a corn field.

TL;DR: Generally only if you leave a door, window, hatch, or trunk lid open.

Get some of those large sticky mouse/rat traps and place them on the floor boards, seats etc. If he’s in there I would think you could catch him on those maybe.

Take this FWIW, I was not there: To check for air tightness in a car, Toyota put a cat in it overnight and if dead the next morning the car it was airtight. Ford heard about this and also put a cat in the car. Next morning it was gone.

My ‘95 Dodge Ram - cleaning out the glove box - found five newborn mice. Still alive, still pink. Think if a pregnant mouse can get in a smaller snake would be able to as well.
My ‘88 BMW - has vents for the trunk located behind the rear wheel wells. Not sure why they’re there nor why they are as large as they are, but if a snake can reach that height it could get in through that vent.

My friend Arif came to Kentucky as a boy from Saudi Arabia. He is a fancy dresser and works, bringing failing car dealerships back to life. He worked weekends at the local Flea Market selling all kinds of junk. One Saturday, he came to our stand to see loads of battery tools. He wanted to buy a bunch to resell. We had 4 big plastic totes full, beneath a plastic table. One by one I pulled out drills, saws, chargers, all manner of power tools. When I got down to the last tool, I jumped back and shouted, "Holy shit it's a snake". I looked up and saw Arifs little fancy dress shoes going up the parking lot as fast as he could run. I reached down in the tote and pulled out a old rusty drain cleaning snake.. . I got him good.

I was in Thailand about 1970, working in Air Base Defense. Our airbases were ringed by wire, guard towers, and bunkers, and a network of perimeter roads to allow quick reaction force response in the event of an attacks. Snakes of all variety were present in abundance. All our patrols carried shotguns for them and you never got in a bunker without checking closely for snakes and scorpions.
So one midnight shift the flight chief and his Thai counterpart and two machinegunners in the back seat of the M-151 are driving the perimeter road when they see a large cobra crossing the road. Rather than shoot it the flight chief runs over the snake to kill it. He stops and looks around but can't find the snake so they continue on down the perimeter. He gets a distance down the road and as he described it, "The jeep got lighter and faster all of a sudden. I looked over my shoulder and my M60 crew had bailed but the snake was on the floor of the jeep and pissed". The snake got tangled in the wheel or undercarriage when he ran over it and made it's way up into the passenger area. They combat parked the jeep in the road until daylight but never did find the snake.
