Liz Cheney Snubs Voters To Mingle With Reporters Instead, Calling Constituents ‘Crazies’ Update: Cheney defeated Login/Join

She is up for a primary and if she wins that, reelection this year. I don't think she will be going back to Washington.

https://thefederalist.com/2022...onstituents-crazies/

Endangered Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney chose to mingle with reporters and media executives over attending an annual grassroots event last weekend during a rare appearance in her home state.

“Where’s Liz Cheney? The Wyoming Republican’s Exile From Wyoming Republicans,” The New York Times headlined its reporting Wednesday highlighting Cheney’s routine absence.

“Ms. Cheney hasn’t appeared at a state Republican Party function in more than two years and hasn’t been to an in-person event for any of the party’s 23 county chapters since 2020,” the Times published.

While Republicans held a major prom-themed fundraiser in southwest Wyoming Saturday, the “biggest night of the year” for the area’s Republicans, Cheney was in the state capital of Cheyenne at an annual gathering for the Wyoming Press Association. Local constituents made clear to The Federalist last fall their at-large congresswoman’s visit anywhere beyond the northwest region of the state, referred to as the “California” portion of Wyoming, was a rare sighting to begin with. She now faces a competitive primary challenge from a Trump-endorsed opponent, land-use attorney Harriet Hageman, a local of Cheyenne.

Cheney’s focus on Washington rather than Wyoming, the Times wrote, “is raising questions in Wyoming about whether she is counting on Democrats to bail her out in the August primary — or even whether she really is battling to hold on to her office.”

Cheney’s campaign, which has made an ongoing feud with former President Donald Trump and his supporters the hallmark of her tenure in the lower chamber, is funded in part by the same blue-dollar donors who bankrolled the Lincoln Project. The incumbent congresswoman is also holding East Coast fundraisers with similarly prominent NeverTrump crusaders including Mitt Romney, a Republican senator from Utah.

“I’m not going to convince the crazies and I reject the crazies,” Cheney told the Times Saturday while she gathered with reporters instead of grassroots supporters 230 miles away. “I reject the notion that somehow we don’t have to abide by the rule of law. And the people right now who are in the leadership of our state party, I’m not trying to get their support because they’ve abandoned the Constitution.”

The harsh words came a day after the Republican National Committee (RNC) voted to censure the Wyoming representative for “participating in a Democrat-led persecution of ordinary citizens engaged in legitimate political discourse.” As House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s personally appointed vice chair of the Select Committee on Jan. 6, Cheney is a key driver of the Democrats’ primary midterm vehicle as it prosecutes political dissidents with no connection to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol.

In November, the Wyoming GOP voted to no longer recognize Cheney as a Republican, as the state’s sole member of the lower chamber escalates her attacks on political opponents including those working to unseat the congresswoman at home.

Does this mean that she will not be recognized as the GOP candidate, and would be running as an independent? How does this work in WY in the primary?

I think it just cuts her off from Repub campaign finance money, hence the reason she's fundraising with the enemy right now. If I had to bet, I'd lay money on this witch not going back to DC after November.

Lisa Murkowski won reelection as a write-in candidate, so it can be done. IIRC, only Strom Thurmond had ever pulled that off before in a Senate race.

I think what you mean is that she will never go back to Wyoming after November. She is a creature of Washington. She grew up in the Virginia suburbs. She is no more a Wyomingite than my dog.

IIRC, she’s raised a lot of money, but it’s coming from: California, Illinois, Virginia and Washington DC. she posts regularly to FB and is universally condemned by her constituents. She gets praise from out staters, especially those who self-identify as Democrats. She’s deader than Elvis in Wyoming.

Generally I prefer any Republican - even a RINO - over a Demokrat, but I'll make an exception in this case. I desperately want her to lose, preferably to a Republican in the primary, but I'd rather anyone take that slot over her.

Rep. Liz Cheney Soliciting Votes From Democrats

https://www.theepochtimes.com/...8e2rYRks4dBZTlcb%2B0

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) is starting to ask Democrats to switch parties and vote for her, as she faces a tough primary battle with a candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump.

Cheney’s campaign website recently added a section that asks and answers questions about voting.

It notes that voters must be registered as a Republican to vote for Cheney in the Aug. 16 primary.

“How do I change my party affiliation to register as a Republican so I can vote for Liz?” the website states, before telling voters how to change their affiliation.

Under Wyoming law, voters can submit an application by mail to change their party up to 14 days before an election. They can also change their affiliation while at a polling place on the day of the primary election.

Cheney’s campaign has also been mailing forms that outline how to change parties to Democrat voters, Joseph Barbuto, the chairman of the Wyoming Democratic Party, told The New York Times.

Barbuto himself got one in the mail.

“I haven’t had any Republicans share online or tell me that they received it,” Barbuto told the paper.

In February, Cheney said that she would not undertake such an effort.

“That is not something that I have contemplated, that I have organized or that I will organize,” she said at the time.

“Liz Cheney told the New York Times that she wouldn’t be encouraging Democrats to raid the Republican primary, but I guess the drive to hold onto power is just too strong for her to keep her word,” Carly Miller, campaign manager for lawyer Harriet Hageman, who is challenging Cheney in the primary, told The Epoch Times in an email.

“What Cheney doesn’t understand is that Democrats will drop her like a bad habit after she’s no longer useful to them on the January 6th Committee. She’s in No Man’s Land—Democrats just see her as a temporary tool, while Republicans are fed up with her completely,” Miller added.

Cheney’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment.

NEW POLL: Liz Cheney trailing Trump-backed primary challenger by more than 20 points

Rep. Cheney sought support from Democrats in the primary, but still trails among Wyoming voters

https://www.foxnews.com/politi...challenger-20-points

Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., trails Republican challenger Harriet Hageman by 22% in a poll released Friday, spelling trouble for the anti-Trump Republican's primary next month.

More than half, 52%, of likely primary voters in Wyoming said they would support Hageman, while just 30% expressed support for Cheney, according to the survey conducted by Mason-Dixon Polling & Strategy on behalf of the Casper, Wyoming, Star Tribune.

The poll, conducted July 7-11 among 1,100 likely voters, showed single-digit support for other Republican primary candidates for Wyoming's sole House seat, and indicated that 11% of voters were undecided.

Former President Donald Trump selected Hageman out of several Republicans vying to unseat Cheney, who voted to impeach Trump and is one of two Republicans on the House committee investigating his alleged role in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

Declaration of party affiliation is self declared, not assigned.

But if one's actions are not consistent with party affiliation, can the party kick you out? If yes, why doesn't the GOP kick her out? If not, why not.

I have a question:

If Cheney loses the primary election which decides which candidate a party will support, can she still run as an independent in order to keep her seat?

I'm for her losing her seat to another republican. I'm just wondering how it works. I know incumbents usually have the advantage but this seems to point out that incumbents have to win twice to keep their seats.
