Have to ask, did you know about the search for it or actually google that question hoping for the answer? When I read the post that question popped into my head first since there's most likely a number that is prime but no one knows it yet.

They can't fall through the hole.

^^^ We have the winner.

Any other geometric shape will have one dimension shorter than another and thus can fall through. Round lids can't fall through the opening of the jar. Same reason.

It amazes me how many people think this is a great imponderable.

While all that's true, the actual reason is to piss off the guys who paint the lines on the street.

the single thing I appreciate the most though is the fact that this site ALWAYS works. never down. Out of a very long list of favorite websites, this is the ONLY one I can say that about.
I don't know how they do it but it is impressive.

Yeah but for how much we pay to be able to post here, the interface could be better. Oh, wait... never mind.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.
