Buttigieg Wins Iowa Delegate Count, But Bernie Tops Popular Vote

Bernie Supporters were complaining that even though Bernie was soundly defeating Booty-gig at the caucuses, he somehow kept getting the same number of caucus votes as Mayor Pete.

In other votes, some of the candidates who didn't get enough votes to be "viable" sent their votes to Mayor Cheat to deny Sanders the win.

Can't wait for the Bernie Bros to react.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

It's a bit of a stretch to say the 'Butt-gig' has won Iowa. Don't forget these tallies are 'partial results' and only represent 62% of the vote. No data has been provided to determine which precincts have reported (and which have not!), and 38% of the vote has not been counted. Note that the is NO Data in the 'Pledged delegates' column because Nobody on the Dem side has won anything in Iowa yet!

Just before the Democratic meltdown in Iowa last night, the Democratic Party tweeted out Chairman Tom Perez’s reflections on the reforms that have been instituted under his leadership

“Some of our major changes this year have to do with how states administer their caucuses — and they are all geared towards making our nominating process more transparent and accessible to more voters. You’ll see some of the changes relating to caucuses on display this week in Iowa.”

Seldom do I wish I was a computer geek so I could understand jokes. Don't bother explaining it though, I'm OK.

https://hotair.com/archives/jo...rs-able-install-app/

NY Times

the majority of the 1700 precinct chairs couldn’t even get the app to install on their phones, in part because it had never been approved for use by the Apple store

Two people who work for Acronym, speaking on the condition of anonymity because they did not want to risk their jobs, acknowledged that the app had problems. It was so rushed, they said, that there was no time to get it approved by the Apple store. Had it been, it might have proved far easier for users to install.

Instead, the app had to be downloaded by bypassing a phone’s security settings , a complicated process for anyone unfamiliar with the intricacies of mobile operating systems, and especially hard for many of the older, less tech-savvy caucus chairs in Iowa.

The app also had to be installed using two-factor authentication and PIN passcodes. The information was included on worksheets given to volunteers at the Iowa precincts tallying the votes, but it added another layer of complication that appeared to hinder people.

In the end, only one-quarter of the 1,700 precinct chairs successfully downloaded and installed the app according to a Democratic consultant who spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid losing work. Many who resorted to calling in the results found that there were too few operators to handle the calls.

According to more than a dozen Iowa Democratic Party officials, county chairmen and volunteers involved in running precincts, many precinct leaders ignored the party’s request that they download the app before caucus night or found the process of installing it too cumbersome.

Instead, as they had always done, they planned to call their precinct results in. But some found it took hours for any of the dozens of people at party headquarters in Des Moines to pick up the phone to receive the results.

People associated with Shadow are now reportedly removing those connections from their Linked In accounts and as Ed noted earlier, ACRONYM, the progressive fundraising group behind Shadow has been disavowing its connections to the group. But it appears that the failure of this project wasn’t solely the fault of the engineers. The main problem was that Shadow was given less than two months to build and test this. That’s a ridiculously short time frame for something that has to not only work but be useable by a bunch of people not very familiar with technology.

Obviously, Shadow didn’t pull off a miracle here but the real culprits responsible for the disaster are the people within the Iowa Democratic Party who committed to this plan with so little time and then failed to have a working backup plan. I don’t suppose we’ll be seeing any of them on television this week.

No workable backup plan when the realities of both human nature and technology rear their true selves. Yeah, this sounds like a typical idealized democrat (or Globalist) operation. These sound like the same guys in charge of snow removal at the DOT.

Precincts reporting has now been stalled for quite a long time, unfortunately, I can’t tell you how long. It was stalled at 62% when Martha McCallum’s show ended, and it’s still stuck there more than 30 minutes into Tucker’s show.

ETA: a quick search seems to disclose that the 62% of precincts tallied was hit at least 3 hours ago.

You don't think...naaaaawww...you don't think they just assumed that Apple would enter into some kind of crash program on its own time and dime so that everything would work perfectly during the caucusing, do ya?

Meanwhile, Biden's motivation for demanding a careful evaluation and a clear explanation of what went wrong becomes a little clearer. You see, as it stands he seems to have come in fourth in Iowa. No one expected him to win there (or in New Hampshire), but apparently the big donors needed him to finish at least third to maintain the illusion of his inevitably being the nominee.

Biden really needs the big donors right now to maintain cash flow - he spent a lot more on ads in Iowa than he expected, and he's already blown a wad of cash setting up campaign offices and organizations in 13 states holding their primaries in March. He's confident he'll do well in Nevada and South Carolina at the end of this month. He's bound to do well in at least some of the fifteen states holding primaries on March 3d. But he needs both money and primary vote wins to sustain the momentum that could make the next month's votes relatively easy for him.

For all of the above, see Biden's Poor Showing In Iowa Shakes Establishment Support, Bill Barrow and Brian Slodysko, AP 2/4/2020 at http://news.yahoo.com/bidens-p...hakes-001153840.html

So why would he (particularly, I suppose) want a slow, careful examination and public explanation of what went wrong in counting the votes in Iowa? Because a whole lot of neat possibilities shake out.

- Even if the votes were accurately reported and the explanation seems credible, it slows down the process of being able to declare a final, official number. During that time, at least, Biden's flacks can assure big donors that no one actually knows how Biden did in Iowa, and hey, meanwhile, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina are just around the corner.

- The accuracy of the count is questionable, no one buys the explanation (or - as so often happens - it raises yet more questions), or both. Biden can tell donors (and everyone else) either that no one actually knows how he did, or that he actually placed higher than he did.

- The count is shown to be inaccurate. Maybe Biden picks up votes and delegates, maybe he doesn't. Since he never expected to do well in Iowa (or so he tells the press), it doesn't really matter to him. Enough candidates will probably lose votes that most Democrats will decide they have no faith in the Iowa count anyway, which in turn means that Biden can make any claims he wants to about how many votes he might've gotten and he gets to play the victim, too.

https://www.latimes.com/politi...l-caucuses-questions

The software vendor at the heart of Iowa’s presidential vote-counting fiasco was dumped Tuesday as the administrator of the upcoming Nevada caucuses.

The party abandoned the app supplied by Shadow Inc. as questions emerged about whether the Democratic Party can run the Feb. 22 caucuses in Nevada without the same kind of trouble that botched the tabulation in Iowa.

The Nevada caucuses are even more byzantine than Iowa’s, offering ample opportunity for confusion and software failures. Nevada Democratic leaders were scrambling Tuesday to find a new way to tally the results before early voting begins Feb. 15.

“We will not be employing the same app or vendor used in the Iowa caucus,” state party Chairman William McCurdy II said. “We had already developed a series of backups and redundant reporting systems, and are currently evaluating the best path forward.”
