Kitty.

When you want his attention, say 'Kitty-kitty'.

When you want him to come to you, 'Kitty-kitty-kitty' is the only thing that works with any cat.

The cat may recognize your calling him by any other name, but he will not care.

Actually, just picked up a fuzzy over here as well. We stuck with the shelter name, which was surprising to me, but everyone else seemed happy with it. On the bright side its a human name, which i prefer since there's nothing dumber-feeling than calling out to "laser" at 3 am if he gets out. Just my 2 cents.

Name him "Alexander" after Alexander Haig who famously said (after Reagan was shot) I'm in charge here now", because that is the attitude your new cat will have after he gets settled in!

That's a definite criteria! My first cat was "Mew" and boy, did I feel like an idiot roaming the neighborhood calling her name when she was lost for a couple days.

A male cat that chose you. That's "Wrench"...Short for "Monkey Wrench". If you don't get it now, you will, soon enough.

It's tough, not seeing his personality and also ruling out human names. But here's my best shot, at least at the moment:

Simba (The young prince cub from The Lion King)

Mufasa (Simba's dad, voiced by James Earl Jones)

Bagheera "Baggie" (One of Mowgli's protectors in The Jungle Book)

Bean

Rocket (Rocky?) -He is the talking racoon, but not a raccoon, in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Groot -Talking tree in Guardians of the Galaxy

Mountie (Mountain Lion)

sigmonkey has listed Linus. The old cartoon, "Linus the Lionhearted" comes to mind.
