In related news, San Francisco is trying to out Seattle....Seattle. There have been more ODs this year than 2019, which outpaced 2018. By all means, let's give the dopers more of what kills them! Overdose deaths outpace Covid deaths. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A record 621 people died of drug overdoses in San Francisco so far this year, a staggering number that far outpaces the 173 deaths from COVID-19 the city has seen thus far. The crisis fueled by the powerful painkiller fentanyl could have been far worse if it wasn't for the nearly 3,000 times Narcan was used from January to the beginning of November to save someone from the brink of death, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday. The data reflects the number of times people report using Narcan to the Drug Overdose Prevention and Education Project, a city-funded program that coordinates San Francisco’s response to overdose, or return to refill their supply. Officials at the DOPE Project said that since the numbers are self-reported, they are probably a major undercount. Last year, 441 people died of drug overdoses — a 70% increase from 2018 — and 2,610 potential overdoses were prevented by Narcan, a medication commonly sprayed up the nose to reverse an opioid overdose, according to data from the city Medical Examiner's office and the DOPE Project. The crisis is deepening because fentanyl, which can be 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, flooded the city's drug supply, the newspaper said. Moreover, the coronavirus pandemic has disrupted city services like housing and treatment, and left many people who rely on others to help save them if they overdose to use alone. While nearly 40% of the deaths occurred in the Tenderloin and South of Market neighborhoods near downtown, city data showed the epidemic has touched every part of the city. Many people overdosed in low-income apartment buildings and in city-funded hotel rooms for the homeless. Others died on sidewalks, in alleyways and parks around the city. P229

I lived in West Seattle for 18 years ('76-'94). When I first moved there from Montana it was nice place to live and easy to get around. In the late 80's things really went to crap as the Lesbian crowd moved North from Cali and the politics became even more liberal. The economy had a few swings as well, again as the population continued to be more liberal. I treasure my time there, met my wife and started our family of four kids. Returning to my home state was a must do move, I'd had enough of the crazy. It's a flippin disaster now.

Interesting comparison since the drug deaths are encouraged and supported like it's a right yet the COVID deaths are used to suspend rights and civil liberties. Fucked up priorities and values. ____________________________________________________ The butcher with the sharpest knife has the warmest heart.

No money in the Covid bill just passed for States and Cities. Looks like they will have to do something themselves and with the passed record, good luck, and good by.

FWIW: Opioid related deaths have increased exponentially since possession of hard narcotics was in decriminalized by leftists years ago through legislation that originated in Sacramento and an initiative process. Those in the MSM cheered these changes on as "progressive" and ignored warnings given by prosecutors, courts, cops, and health experts. This isn't something that came about due to COVID. A year ago this was known and ignored as being just a byproduct of their idea of "freedom", like the government issue of syringes (so as to prevent the transmission of communicable diseases). Sorry pulicords, they have a right to overdose on opioids, even those purchased with stolen funds, and/or injected using gov't provided tools. Such is the enlightened/progressive approach, get with it. Now, I must start my scheduled IV of concentrated liberal kool-aid. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. What if San Diego adopted public policy that encouraged, sheltered and aided alcoholism? What if San Diego opened up shelters and public areas to drunken bums pissing, puking and dumping on sidewalks, in front of stores and businesses, parks, the Gas Lamp district? What if the public avoided these drunks and conventions cancelled etc? San Diegans would be irate. How then is alcoholism any different than drug abuse in Seattle or San Fran? Why do those cities tolerate drug abuse to the point of destroying a city? P229

I guess my first thought was if San Diego did those things, they would only be following San Francisco's example. I posted before, we have liberal friends who moved to San Francisco to enjoy the grandeur of the city. They moved back a year or two later, saying SF is a dirty slum, they couldn't stand it any longer. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women.
