Current projection is they will in the Orange Bowl.

One commentator I saw on broadcast TV following the Alabama Georgia game said that the Playoff Selection Committee should go strictly on the won/loss record and anything else is just a "beauty show". He favored putting FSU in just because they are 13-0.

My disagreement is that each and every week the polls come out, there are other considerations than won loss record alone. There's strength of schedule etc etc.

If selection were based on won loss alone, why isn't Liberty at 13-0 in the playoff? Why isn't James Madison at 11-1 up for consideration? ... I think we know why and for the same reasons that apply to any selection or poll.

Whatever happens in the playoff games, I just hope it's the teams that decide the outcome and not the officials. Some conference officials might call a game differently than a set of officials from a differing conference in the same game.

DISCLAIMER: I don't have examples off the top of my head, just a gut feeling.

I have to say it is nice to see Michigan back in the Rose Bowl, and I do agree with the #1 & #2 ranking there. However, the polling process is pretty subjective. I even struggle a bit with the choices for 3 & 4. It also seems like that happened awful quick, almost as if it was predetermined based on the win/loss combinations of the Saturday games.

They made the right call with Alabama. Strength of schedule was 5. FSU a dismal 55. Won loss is not the only factor.

So how do they match up in wins against top 25 opponents?

Texas also beat Kansas and Kansas St from the top 25.
Alabama beat Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU and Georgia from the top 25.

... so Alabama rather than Texas in the playoff if it's between those two.

Texas did lose to OU. OKState beat OU and Texas wiped out OKState. The Texas-OU game was on neutral field, Dallas.

I suspect the CFP Committee made a business decision rather than one based on fairness. That is, which four teams will produce the most viewership during the playoffs. And imagine, if you will, the excitement should the championship game be between Texas and Alabama.

100% correct, it was an all business decision.

Yup, it's about the almighty dollar first. Fairness takes a back seat. They looked at the FSU situation (injured QBs) and the most uninspired last game in terms of offensive output, and said to themselves, "Shit, we surely don't want this FSU team in the playoffs, because it's going to be a ratings disaster".

If you really want to talk about the ugly capitalism, let's throw the players into the mixer too.

How many top teams have a virgin QB , one who hasbeen onlyat that University (this could apply to all positions)? They jump teams almost every year if they are not starting QB. Looking at their NFL future.

How many top players do not even play their last championship or bowl game to save themselves for their NFL potential offers? These players will not risk injury playing for the winning season team (that helped him get the pro offer) to win the potential championship or bowl win.

That's the reality of capitalism at all levels, Universities, coaches, players, television,...

I started watching the MI game, switched to the FSU game, then quickly switched back to the MI game. I agree with your assessment of the FSU game.

The "Alliance", inclusive of the ACC, blocked moving to a 12 team format until next season. Karma bit them in the private parts this year.

Both AL & GA demolished Kentucky, who readily handled Louisville.

Had FSU come out and rolled Louisville then they would probably have gotten the 4th spot. 0-3 at halftime showed that FSU is no better than a middling SEC team, and so shouldn't have gotten the 4th spot.

Committee got it right, but if ACC Pac12 Big 10 had had more confidence and foresight then they would still be in the hunt, along with a number of other teams.

Troy fan here. I know we are G5 scum, but It's a good time to be a Trojan. We just won back2back SunBelt titles and we are now set to play Duke in the Birmingham Bowl on December 23.

All that being said, the best part is none of the P5 schools have stolen our coach yet.

Just thought I would side track a football thread. Cry Havoc!

Also, G5 scum Smile

Liberty getting to play in the Fiesta Bowl with Oregon is going to be a big deal. Also, the first time the CUSA conference made it to the New Year 6.

So Mrs. Redstone and I are heading to Phoenix for new years Smile

^Not only is it televised, it is on ABC on 12/23 at Noon Eastern. I am debating if this is the first time Troy has played on ABC. We may have when we played Clemson in 2016.
It's a big deal for us.
