What is this faggotry? Someone explain this to me, if you can, please.

Some of these churches are getting out of hand, we actually left a church because they decided to have a “Country Themed” Easter and were going to have a friggin MECHANICAL BULL RIDE at the church on GOOD FRIDAY.

You heard that right. On the solemnest of Christian holidays, they had country music and a mechanical bull. WTF

There is a segment of modern, trendy "Christianity" that apparently believe that Jesus died on the cross because humanity was suffering from lack of entertainment. They don't actually say it, but instead show it repeatedly.

Unfortunately, it's rampant at megachurches.

One of my pastor friends shared some of the nonsense that church growth consultants have suggested and my jaw was on my chest. Take down the cross display because it's offensive, for the worship band on stage hire professional musicians regardless of whether or not they're actually Christian as it's more important to sound good, etc.

I'm not sure how to respond to that, except to say that that is not Christianity. It sounds like an industry pretending in frivolous ways to be Christianity. It sounds like a scam.

I attended a couple large churches. That nonsense would not be accepted in any of them.

Satan tried to defeat churches from the outside; now he seems to be working at destroying them from within.

Designed to get the woke crowd in the door and keep the contribution plates full. I haven't stepped foot in a Catholic church since my brother's funeral six years ago. I have been raised Christian all my life.

I think there’s a middle ground, but most large/megachurches are more scams than anything else.

Ding, ding, ding!!!

It's a false god / idol worship going on to get more $$ from the audience.

(NOT gonna call them a congregation cause only a real church has that. Wink)

If the poster is serious about the cross offending people in a church….

This sounds awful, and feels very alien, but after working with a bunch of young kids, Christianity needs an IG and a YouTube channel.

Repeatedly, the Gospel was translated into different languages etc to make it accessible to the local populations.

I think it’s the same thing.

You think it's the same thing? Male strippers, sword swallowers? Bacchanalian pageantry?

Why not have barely-dressed teen girls going up and down the aisles, selling shots of Jack Daniels?

These people better hope that Jesus doesn't decide to show up right now.

I am not sure 'stripper' is justified. He bills himself as a martial artis and sword swallower extraordinaire. His Instagram page would lead you to believe he has Buddhist tendencies.

BUT, I fully agree that it was inappropriate, and I am sure that Driscoll's comments on the spirit of Jezebel hit a little close to home. I have walked out of men's super conferences like this before. Seeing, Driscoll get booted, I would have left as well.

But to have a pro fisherman, footballer, or 'duck' hunter talk to you about faith and living a godly life is motivating and encouraging. Watching a Las Vegas sexy, martial artis swallowing swords? Yeah, I am not sure how that fits in.

Our church used to do a huge three weekend production at Christmas, it was big. But the pastor was talking with a family that was celebrating Christmas . . in January. He asked why and they apologetically stated that because of the program, most of the families that are involved do not celebrate Christmas in December, and a few wait until Summer. That kicked off a massive re-evaluation of what it means to be a church. The huge Sunday sermon props stopped, the Christmas program got scaled back to just one weekend etc. The church became missions oriented, community need oriented. The leading message is "if the church disappeared overnight and there is not a massive wail of "who will feed the hungry, who will help the elderly, who will help those with hurt and in need?" If that does not happen, if the community does not miss your church, you have failed, and likely were never a church to begin with.

I don't know anything about that organization but there have been a lot more "Christian" groups coming out of the woodwork lately and they do not hold to Biblical values or teaching/instruction. I would not consider them Christian, just because they don't fit into any other group-Muslim,Buddhist,etc.. Unfortunately, many groups call themselves Christian but they are not. There are always people who want to twist the Bible to suit their wants/desires/worldly views and they will be held accountable on the Day of Judgement. Christ is not inclusive as they believe He is, He is more exclusive. He states more than once, there is only "one way" to the Father and that is through Him, John 14:6. If you have repented and trust on Him as your savior, He will lead you in all things, as the Holy Spirit was promised to live in us. He will guide us in our life and help us turn away from evil. It is sad to see how some will mislead others into believing things that are not Bible based. We can look to Jesus as an example of how to be a man in this world. Some of these "Christian" organizations have more in common with their father, the devil.

It's not just mega-churches. My own church, which is not necessarily left or right leaning, allowed one of our leaders to set up a Sunday afternoon "local creek cleanup" effort, described as a "way to put our faith in action".

Cleaning up a city-owned nature space for the city spreads the awesome soul-saving power of the Gospel, or something. Roll Eyes
