Boss,

There was a huge Kidde extinguisher recall. I'd be careful on what you get. Just sayin'.

Yup.

And I have still yet to receive my replacements!

I gave up and bought a couple First Alerts

I was involved in that recall, and only knew about it thanks to the forum. Received my 2 replacement extinguishers within 2 weeks of filling out the recall. Also had another that was quite old and with the same plastic handle, but not in the recall. We took it out back and all three of us (wife, daughter, and myself) Were able to practice.

I felt Kidde handled the recall effectively and efficiently, and would not hesitate to recommend their products after the fact. I am, of course, assuming they actually work to put out a fire...

Last year (on Labor Day) there was a fatal car crash in front of my house. I was assisting prior to the first responders arriving, and an observer called out that one of the vehicles was on fire.
My wife got one of the Kidde extinguishers from the house, and I was able to knock the fire out easily (oil from the engine ignited on the hot exhaust, caught it before it got bad).
After all was said and done, the fire department invited us to their annual banquet and presented us with a First Alert extinguisher to replace the one we used.

So, the small Kiddee extinguisher (no hose) worked well to knock out a developing engine fire, and the Fire Department purchased a First Alert as the replacement.

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.
