Just flat-out ridiculous that this thread has been sidetracked with having to explain repeatedly to freaking rain man the Goddamned obvious.

These gender reveal parties started as a little cute creativity but have grown to beyond stupid.

When can this silliness end? I mean isn't the current mantra when an accident happens that we demand that this must be stopped so it can never happen again?

This. My wife and I agreed that there are to few surprises anymore and we’d “wait and see what we got.” Smile

Yup, All of THIS^^^

Didn't want to know, Didn't need to know! The only thing we hoped and prayed for was a healthy child, so we painted the Baby's room yellow! I found out we had a Boy when I glanced at 'him' as the doctor scooted away from my wife on a wheeled stool (not breathing yet, umbilical cord still attached!), to a small table w/ some fancy implements to suction some fluid.

"He's a Boy" I uttered (as my eyes got a little blurry), and my wife squeezed my hand!

That was our 'Gender Reveal', and I wouldn't have it any other way! Smile

Here's what I think SNS3Guppy is missing. While the color of the water obviously was not a contributing factor to the crash in and of itself, the fact that the pilot was engaged in a gender reveal stunt very likely contributed to he/she/it/they/them getting into a bad flying situation in an attempt to pull off said stunt for the thrill of the viewing audience. This most likely involved air speeds/manuevers/etc. that wouldn't normally be employed in regular cropdusting situations. IOW, probably a case of pilot error.

BTW, there must be video of this, because the only reason people go to the trouble of arranging stunts like this is to post it on Facebook or Instagram (or it didn't happen!)

I agree with that, but this guy must have been a really, really dumb pilot. I have a friend that owns one of these, know there are members here on the forum that do or have, and other members of the forum that have flown them. I don't know if you've ever seen one of these in flight, but they are very powerful maneuverable machines.

Hot rodding around is exactly this plane's job description. To do so in such a way that caused it to fall from the sky required a special level of stupid...which wouldn't have happened were it not for a gender reveal party.

Gender reveal?

I was in the delivery room and when the deed was done, I looked and exclaimed "It's a boy!"

Does that count?

OK you pilots and aviation people. What would be the probable cause of such catastrophic stuctural failure?

We did it the old fashion way too, Bob. No body was killed in the process.

Hope the kid doesn't spin out of control.

Notice that the camera pans back to the parents and the glitter...the important stuff, you know. No concern whatsoever that a man has just died in a plane crash right next to them.

Unbelievable.

Eek that plane folded like a cheap scale model.
Overloaded/overstressed airframe?

I’m neither, but I’ll guess high airframe hours coupled with shoddy maintenance and inspections. The video says San Pedro, Mexico.

I have the same question. What the heck happened that would cause the wing to fold like this?

Too much pressure on the wing, but from what? it wasn't even a windy/stormy day.

Aviation experts please step on in....

I read somewhere that he realized he was way too low and suddenly tried to pull up but the wings couldn’t handle the maneuver?

Wing spar failure, from the looks of the video.

These planes fly as SEATs, Single Engine Air Tankers, regularly. This was probably the easiest gig the pilots had.

A gender reveal may not be something I’m interested in, but if it makes the parents happy I’m not gonna get wrapped around the axle about it. The only one I’ve been involved is guys mostly off to ourselves talking guy stuff while having beer and cake, which isn’t a great combination.
