U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy, R-S.C., announced Wednesday that he will not seek re-election, saying his skills “are better utilized in a courtroom than in Congress.”

Gowdy, who is finishing his fourth term, was first elected in 2010 after a contentious battle with former Rep. Bob Inglis.

***************

Gowdy sometimes was frustrating, but overall I thought he was a valuable member of the REP House. Actually, a very valuable member.

An awful lot of REPs aren't running for reelection.

He knows that he has been smoked out, and his trick of talking out of both sides of his mouth has been exposed-- mainly by Sundance at The Conservative Treehouse.

That’s probably true, and likely true of quite a few others as well.

Being a Congressman must be very frustrating indeed.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." - Justice Janice Rogers Brown

I think that is our loss. But four terms in my opinion is plenty for any congressman. I hope he does good work back outside DC.

After he has irritated so many, confirmation might be an uphill fight.

Why should he be limited to a government job? He could be in private practice, a great Rolodex, proven skills and success.... a rain maker!

I've said here before I've always enjoyed watching Gowdy grill people. He's a great prosecutor and knows how to asks the questions.

Being in his government position about all he could do was run to the end of his chain and bark and he mastered that. I for one would like to see him in a position of being able to enact some consequences on the swamp creatures.

He could be Judge Roy Bean or he could turn out to be a Jeff Sessions. I'd like to see which he is.

Yep... I think he's frustrated with the 'job' of US Congress Critter. I can't blame him.
I think he will better utilize his talents in whatever future endeavor he pursues.

Either as a Supreme or as AG would be a better for for him. Supremes do get to ask questions (hear that Clarence?) during hearing a case.

A Supreme appointment would be great for the USA, although confirmation would be a tough battle without a long tenure is progressively higher courts.
