re: "I for one would like to see him in a position of being able to enact some consequences on the swamp creatures. "

I'm a fan as well but disappointed all-too-often by lack of any discernible institutional results of his skillful ability to slice & dice in pursuit of an answer to specific questions.

If you support Trey Gowdy, you in effect support Robert Mueller. Gowdy never misses an opportunity to tell America that Mueller is doing a great job and will render a fair result. Among Republicans and Democrats, Gowdy is one of Mueller's fiercest and most dependable defenders.

So you are supporting a man who supports the man who is heading up the most disgraceful witch hunt in American history-- actually an attempted coup. If you support President Trump, you are also supporting the man trying to bring him down. Talk about horseplop.... Roll Eyes

Then why the heck did he send me two emails last month asking for money for his re-election? To be honest I'm not a fan.... every time I see him I get a creepy feeling just when I was watching one of the Harry Potter movies:

Nonsense.

Luckily, I have enough willpower to control the driving ambition that rages within me.

Some of you guys love Gowdy, and I kinda get it. I mean, he barks pretty hard at people that need to get barked and nipped at. More bark than nip, but still. From my corner, it looks like the guy is now bowing out after doing everything he could to defend Mueller and his investigation, and worse, he looked really uncomfortable to the point of looking like a cornered liar while he did it.

But hey, lament the draining of the swamp. He's a former company man, and has been valiantly defending the company, and oh hey... he's not seeking re-election or appointment while the company is going down in flames. Nope, couldn't be anything to that. Not like we haven't been stunned and amazed by some of the other things to come out about our government over the last few years....

Some don’t understand that saying you believe another is a person of demonstrated professional integrity who you believe will act properly in making decisions, as (s)he has sworn to do, without that being proof of a conspiracy.

That is as much as Gowdy has said, in effect, about Mueller and the DOJ.

Of course, none of us has any real idea about it. None of us know Mueller, or Gowdy, or any of the other persons involved, and have only media reports to go on, so forming opinions on these matters is chancy, speculative. Some of us can lean on our professional training and experience in evaluating other lawyers, but this has serious limitations. Some are shrewd judges of character, even of those they have never met, but they are rare, I would think.

So the notion that Gowdy is in the tank for Mueller, and anyone who thinks anything positive about either one is a scoundrel is fraught with errors, doubts, uncertainty and worse.

Gowdy knows Mueller personally; he's obviously worked with him or had interactions with him. I think Gowdy simply believes from those personal experiences that Mueller is honest. I don't believe any of his comments regarding Mueller and his role in this investigation go any deeper than that. I don't see a giant nefarious, deep state motive to his comments that you do. Sorry. I guess I don't get bent out of shape when someone says something that isn't 100% in line with my thoughts 100% of the time.

Seriously, as far as I know, you're on the outside of all of this the same as the rest of us. So what inside track into the minds of these men do you have that I don't? This obsessive like crusade you've taken up against Gowdy I just find strange. It's almost like it's personal. I'll take his record of the past seven years or so in the Congress over his one comment saying he thinks Mueller will do a good job.

Jesus Christ.

But then again, maybe I'm just a deep state hack.

ETA: Joe, you know I'm still your homie, right?

Gowdy is incisive, dogged, brilliant and methodical. He would do very well as a Supreme Court Justice or as the DOJ head! At east, IMO.

I'm an outsider, don't know Trey Gowdy, and in fact for a long time I was really a fan of his. He is an impressive guy. But if Gowdy believed that Mueller is honest, and that his investigation is objective and legitimate, he would have to be a dunce.

It's an endless witch hunt, it is an attempt to remove Trump from office. It is an attempted coup. You don't need a law degree to see that clearly.

Maybe you don't think it's that bad. But if you do, then I don't know how you, or anyone who values President Trump, could support a man who champions--cheerleads-- the witch hunt. Gowdy doesn't just support, he never misses an opportunity to say-- before the cameras-- that Mueller is doing a great job.

Every day I reflect on how close we came to losing our country to a totalitarian regime that had a strong foothold, and was prepared in the next eight years for a complete takeover, controlling all the agencies of government as enforcement arms, especially a secret police force of FBI headed by James Comey.

Donald Trump stepped away from a life of luxury and ease and waded into the swamp. I'm not the friend of anyone, like Trey Gowdy, who supports Mueller's attempt to drive the man who is saving America out of office.

I love a good argument-- I have learned a lot that way-- and I don't take it personally. Comments like "horseplop," though, are personal, since it's just an insult, not in any way an argument. But my skin is thick.

So-- no worries, Balze. We can disagree about Gowdy and you can still be my homie.

I see my reading library expanding once he returns to being a regular citizen. I expect some books coming from Mr. Gowdy that will make for some interesting political reading material.

I am one of Gowdy's contituents, so don't go whining that I don't know Gowdy. I pay attention to these things.

Yes, Gowdy looks great in sound bites. But he is nothing more than a GOP establishment water carrier. He put Paul Ryan's name in nomination as Speaker of the House, and John Boehner before that.

While he, like Lindsey Graham, claims to be a conservative, he ALWAYS sides with the GOP establishment over conservatives.

Good riddance.
