...well I purchased the Moccamaster based on reviews and videos, almost all good reviews. I figured for the price difference there had to be a big quality difference between that and the cheap Zojirushi. I really tried to taste an improvement but I couldn't. and all coffee being equal the saved space on the counter and simplicity and ease of use gave the nod to the Zutto. everyone's taste is different so your mileage may vary. also, the amount made is the exact amount I drink each morning so no waste. If someone wants the like new Moccamaster, local pick up, less than retail, let me know.

The big deal in the Mochamaster is the huge copper heating block. This is what lets it get up to proper brewing temp so fast. Many other brewers will get up to the proper temp, but are well into the brewing cycle before they hit it. I have my own style of humor. I call it Snarkasm.

The other brand of bottled spring water, Hinckley Springs, tastes just as good as the Ice Mountain spring water that I tried yesterday afternoon. So this solves my water question. As long as it’s spring water it should be good for coffee. I guess it’s all about the minerals in the water. If it’s purified or distilled these minerals are stripped from the water and you don’t get proper extraction from the coffee, and that’s what I was tasting the last few days. I was using purified water with minerals added back in for taste but apparently that doesn’t do the job like just using spring water. I’m just glad that I have found a way to not muck up the Technivorm once I get to start using it, which got delivered yesterday. It’s going to be a long Three weeks. Lol

A non contributing post follows. Wow WiFi coffee makers!? Dang. That’s all high tech huh? Better make sure you gotta good brand name USB adapter or you’ll burn that shit right down with the house. Ha. Sorry I can’t help here. I “run” a Chemex non thermal carafe and only feed it fresh ground high speed low drag whole bean dark roast. The upgrade we “run” is a non bleached 922 compliant surpressor/filter. Additionally, strictly RO H2O for the most bestus’ cup o’ joe. No preheat, no gimmicks, just real olde fashion virgin molecoles from our private well stock, goes into our recipe. Truly the finest high caffeine brown water this side of the Connecticut. Snark off.

I’m with you on the chemex but I like the bleached filter (washed prior to brewing) and use tap water. I think you need some minerals in the water for the dissolved coffee solids to bind to. RO water isn’t distilled, so that likely works very well.

Just a quick update. I was finally able to open my Christmas present this morning and I made my first pot of coffee with my new Moccamaster, and it was EXCELLENT. Like my Behmor I expect the Moccamaster to just get better with every pot brewed over the next couple of weeks. I very much appreciate the glass carafe so I can quickly see how much coffee I have left as well as the fact that I can see that the coffee maker did go through a brew cycle (biggest reason why I wanted the glass carafe instead of a thermal carafe). Having a 5-6 minute brew cycle is most welcome as well....especially after a year of having a 12-14 minute wait for a pot of coffee. This might not seem like a big deal to wait 12-14 minutes, but imagine having a finite amount of time on a work morning and all you want to do is sit down and relax with a cup of coffee and surf the web while you’re waking up only to find out that the stupid “smart” coffee maker didn’t actually brew when it was programmed (and not realizing it until you go to pour a cup...after doing everything else like feeding the dogs and such). Talk about frustrating. I also have the capability to “program” my Moccamaster to brew right before we get up in the morning by using a Belkin Wemo smart plug. It’s rated for 15 amps and it works like a champ. If anyone reading is interested in what I have just let me know.

^^^^^^ Congratulations that's awesome! Enjoy! Just a quick thank you to Technivorm. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have an older Moccamaster that was given to me. The folks moved, lost the cover lids for the water reservoir and the brew basket, went and bought a new Technivorm not realizing the parts were only a phone call away from Technivorm. I ordered and paid for them. Having said all that, a few weeks ago I noticed the filter basket was backing up with the water brew, no matter how much I wiggled and worked the off-on-halfway slide switch. I phoned Technivorm and, described the issue and asked them if I needed to clean or replace the filter basket. The guy decided I needed a new filter basket, got my shipping address and said it's on the way. I said hey I haven't given you my cred card number yet. He said Merry Christmas and no charge! I got it a few days ago! I was amazed at the customer service, but not surprised, they have always exceeded my expectations. To me, it's just simply a small but revered joy to use the machine and make an outstanding cup of coffee. In today's high tech world, I don't need to refer to the owners manual, just set it up and push the button. Quick, quiet, powerful, producing something I love to drink. I enjoy high tech things, yet the older I get the more I appreciate simple things that work, and work well, very well, and last.

While we liked ours the metal carafe was a pain in the ass, the drip adapter would not tighten and the plug was a bitch to screw on. Customer service on trying to get a new one was crap even after i sent them a video of the issues with the carafe. Ended up by buying a new one for 89$s and that works fine. The machine does make good coffee.
