Couple of questions for you guys that have a Moccamaster. The glass carafe, does it pour easily enough without spilling all over the place? My current coffee maker, a Behmor Connected has a terrible thermal carafe. If you leave the lid on it, it takes forever to pour a cup of coffee...it’s just so slow to pour. Taking the lid off sure speeds things up but if you don’t pour perfectly you’ll have excess coffee or water (when filling the water reservoir) on your counter. Despite the warnings when I bought it a year ago I took a chance on it and this has to be my biggest complaint about the thing as it happens on a daily basis.

My other big complaint about the Behmor is that if you lose WiFi it doesn’t want to work unless you push the button on the front of it. Not a huge deal as long as it doesn’t have some phantom error code (which will prevent it from even attempting to heat up the water....trust me I know this from experience) you can just press the button but it takes 14 minutes to brew a pot. I’m very much attracted to the 6 minutes brew time on the Moccamaster. Having to manually start it in the morning isn’t a big deal because it takes me longer than 6 minutes to take care of my daily morning ritual of feeding the dogs and such.

The other question I have of the Moccamaster is if you guys that have one wish you would have gone a different route for a coffee maker. Is it easy to keep clean? Make a consistent and great tasting coffee? Is there anything that you would change about it? It’s an expensive coffee maker so I’m just curious about other’s opinions about it before I get one. I’m very attracted to the simplicity of it....no electronics to interfere with getting me my coffee fix in the morning (reference to that morning where my Behmor had an error code locked in....what a way to start the day...took almost an hour to get a cup of coffee).

I just turn mine on when I want to make coffee and go about my business.

This machine makes the best (automated) coffee of any machine I have owned so no I wouldn't buy something different. I have a glass carafe and it washes out easily and pours well. The brew cone rinses out easily also. I can taste the metal in vacuum carafes so no experience there. Get it at Bed Bath and Beyond with the 20% off coupon, about the best price I have found.
I would buy it again.

The Moccamaster plastic parts start breaking apart after 15 years, at least mine did. My late '90s unit was a gift from a vendor in '00 or so, the model Moccamaster was discontinuing. It still works perfectly, the scale light never came on, it was descaled a couple times, running vinegar through it.

The glass carafe is easy to clean. Zero drippage. My unit is white, so the hot plate did receive some staining in its scratches. It's now wearing brown plastic trim scavenged off a donor from the same customer's basement but the whole unit now resides in my basement. I've gone over to making a single pour-over cup at a time.

When the right job comes along, it will be a popular construction trailer coffee machine.

If I was buying another I'd get the same glass carafe with hotplate model in stainless.

I don't own one, but drink coffee from one 3-4 days a week at work. It has the stainless thermal carafe, and it keeps coffee hot for a long time. It does brew consistently good tasting coffee, seems to be one of those items worth the premium price. I think they have refurbs for about $100 less than new.

Do the current models have a descale warning light? If so, it’s something I haven’t seen as of yet.

My Dad’s is from Father’s Day ‘11 and I liked it so well I bought mine in ‘12 with my tax refund. Both are the thermal carafe and it holds temp a long time. I fill mine up with hot water while grinding beans so it’s preheated to 120 before the 200ish degree coffee hits it (this preheat makes it stay hot even longer in the carafe).

I’d buy it again in a heartbeat.

No descaler light on mine or Dad’s. There is a clear glass/plastic tube in the center of the water tank they tell you to keep an eye on for scale. I only use filtered water (I actually change my filter every 6 months religiously) and the tube has never shown scale. I run vinegar thru it annually just to be safe (pro tip: I move my Technivorm outdoors for this so the hot vinegar doesn’t stink up the house).

Ive had mine for about 8 years

its designed to do one thing, and one thing only...brew a great cup of coffee

there are no bells and whistles, no auto shut off to sneak a cup before its finished. There is a slide on the cone holder that adjusts the strength and supposedly a shut off, this never has worked well but its a minor complaint

mine has the descale light but its never lit up. I clean it about every year or when I see the water is not heating quickly. I use New Orleans tap water which is high in minerals

I have the glass carafe so can't speak to the thermal

would I buy again..most definitely!!

They are recommending descaling when you run low /out of a 100ct #4 cone filters

The ol Netherlands simplicity I guess and less to go wrong

My new one has Auto-off AND a two temp hotplate
I did not choose the one with a manual switch in basket for slo-flo for 5 cup or stop for pre-infusion as I thought I might forget where I left it, go brush my teeth, and come back to overflowing basket. Mine does have a hinged stop so I CAN pull carafe WHILE brewing to grab a cup ( and you could preinfuse a bit by not putting carafe in immediately) so there's that.

Glass Carafe pours great for me & cleans easily
The new models seem to have thin glass carafes though.. read "looks fragile".... but the darn coffee is so good who cares new ones can be had
Use a decent Burr not blade grinder and Good beans, you'll love it
My model is KBG-741 the one with manual stop/go slider is KB-741 mine was 309 but got on sale in mid 200's

I've had mine for what feels like about five years. Zero issues, I went with the CDGT model. My only complaint is the thermal metal carafe doesn't keep the coffee hot enough for me after the first hour or so. I descale mine once a quarter or at least that's the target. Never bitter unless I buy that overroasted stuff from Seattle. I'd have to see what else is out there before buying the same thing again, but I've never regretted the purchase.

Try the preheat I mentioned earlier in the thread.

Your thermal carafe may have lost its vacuum seal????? You might phone Technivorm and talk to them. I’ve found the phone people extremely competent and helpful. Phone 855-662-2200

My glass carafe model pours so easily, never a drop spilled.

I also have the metal thermal carafe model, it pours perfectly too. I was gifted this one, it was missing some parts. The owners had moved cross country and lost the filter basket and lids so they just bought a new one. Silly folks didn’t know parts were just a phone call away. I got replacement parts from Technivorm.

The glass carafe on mine pours just fine. I've previously had some Mr. Coffee type machines that had crappy carafes but the Technivorm is good to go. To me they're worth the money, Technivorms are overbuilt like some of the older American appliances used to be so it will last if cared for. It makes noticeably better coffee and is faster due to the heavy duty heating element.

I still have a Krups machine that makes decent coffee but takes 10-12 minutes for a full pot. The Technivorm does a full pot in about 6 minutes.

The Technivorm works flawlessly for me; I have the glass carafe and find it never spills.
In addition to being quick, it is quiet compared to other units I have used.
We go sometimes to a B&B where the very picky owner/chef boasts of using a Technivorm for his guests' coffee.

I ended up choosing the Bonavita over the Technivorm. Can anyone who has experience with both say which they like better?

Unless you require blistering hot coffee, consider the stainless carafe model. Ours is hot for a couple hours and still warm after 6 or more. Do have to make sure the gasket at top isn't twisted, but once you're used to where the lid should close to you know immediately if it is and can correct.

Damn good cup of coffee! I thought it was more hype than legit, but I was wrong.

Yes. I have a Bonavita I bought first because it was much cheaper than the Technivorm and it was highly rated by the Specialty Coffee Association.
The Bonavita did make good coffee but it couldn't keep the coffee hot. I was getting frustrated with it so I contacted the Bonavita Company. They said I must have a bad thermal carafe and would send me a replacement under warranty. They did, their customer service was fine.

While waiting for it to arrive I wandered in the Williams Sonoma store and saw a gorgeous copper color Technivorm. It went home with me.

The replacement Technivorm carafe arrived about a week later and went into the closet with the Bonavita unit and it's still there. I'm sure it will work fine if needed.

However I just really like the looks, fit and finish of my copper color Technivorm, I just get a joy using it and it is quick to make excellent coffee.

Even though I have a second Technivorm at home, if something happened like a fire or tornado, I'd go spend the extra $$$ on another Technivorm. Nothing wrong with the Bonavita performance, I just get a joy with my Technivorm that the Bonavita doesn't give me.

To me, the Bonavita is a very good $100-ish coffee maker that is a throwaway when time comes.

I can buy pretty much any part for a Technivorm and I am informed I can also send back an old one and they will rebuild and recondition it. I like that idea.

Bonavita made in China, Technivorm hand made in the Netherlands. Take your pick.

Good luck to you.
