We can't legally dispose of electronics here. We have to wait for electronics recycling at specified locations and take things in. There is a fee for tv's.

Prior to COVID (it messed up the last 2), every April 22nd I'd take my unwanted or broken electronics to one of the many Earth Day recycling drop-off station (think conex with signs and volunteers). Here where I live it was only a 1/2 mile out of my way on the way to work. They even took the items out of my vehicle and I never had to leave the driver's seat. I was on the verge of feeling bad when I dropped off heavy CRTs, but I quickly got over it.

I got a bunch of stuff collecting dust in the corner of my home office to drop off next Earth Day.

For many things like that, we wind up paying. Since that is probably going to happen, i usually save it up until the next local school club/band recycling fundraising.

I’d dismantle it to smaller pieces and maybe break some larger pieces into smaller pieces, especially plastic. Then I’d start throwing them gradually into the trash.

Some of those really thick black plastic yard waste bags would come in handy. I might try putting the crt screen into one, then carefully smash it up.

Our municipality contracts with Waste Management. The normal pickup (trucks with devices that pickup the "special" can) will not take special items. However, the Waste Management (WM) website has a section wherein I can schedule a special pickup that includes CRT. I have yet to schedule this service so there may be a surcharge. WM does include a few special items in the fee so check with your municipality.

FWIW, my dealings with WM have been good, they send me a notice for any service disruption or change to schedule due to holiday. No complaints from my end.

Let me help you out. Which way did you come in?

I remember when I was a kid, old TVs made very satisfying noise when I shot them. Probably not the thing to do these days.

Para retro gamers would take if off your hands. I don't know where you live, but we have junk collectors that will grab stuff like that if you put it on the street.

Stick it out by the curb with a sign on it. "broken! only shows porn." it will be gone in minutes.
