"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I'll add your dad to my list with Bisleyblackhawk and my neighbor. I'm sorry he's going through that. Going through same thing with my mom. She's in bad shape. Stay strong and faithful.

I can identify with you. The guy my mother married after my dad passed was also a PITA. But he did sincerely love mom, and was a great comfort to her, and I was grateful that she didn't have to be lonely, as both my brother and I were thousands of miles away for all but occasional brief visits at the old homestead. They are both gone many years now.

I hope your step-mother is able to comfort your dad. Just that alone should ease your emotional burden.

Best wishes for you and your dad, you are in my prayers.

Thanks,

Sap

John

The key to enforcement is to punish the violator, not an inanimate object. The punishment of inanimate objects for the commission of a crime or carelessness is an affront to stupidity.
