I have a 2010 extended cab. At the time, I was opposed to losing a foot of bed space just for a double cab, but now, I think I would go with the double cab, considering how much I use the bed. I would never go with a tonneau, because I do use my bed, but 5 ft of length is plenty for my purposes. Nice truck!! | |||

I'm a Dodge Ram guy myself, but the Tundra and Tacoma are a very, very close 2nd for me. It was a tough choice, the Toyotas build quality is better than anything out there, but for towing I went with the Hemi torque. That's a gorgeous truck!! I'll forever be envious of the Toyota slow crawl assist! Does yours have it? | |||

That's a nice truck. I see several people going back to the stick shift. Makes driving a lot more interesting and should give a few more mpg's. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress. | |||

The only personal experience I have with the auto tranny in the new 3rd Gen Taco was on an extended test drive I took late last year (2016). During that test drive (2017 TRD Sport, 4 door, 4X4) the six speed automatic could not decide what gear it wanted in city driving. On the highway, once we got up to 60 MPH it was OK…. Until slight hills. Then it went gear hunting again. The 6 speed auto is continually shifting. This concerned me. I have owned/driven both 1st and 2nd Generation Tacomas with automatic trannies. I am well-versed in their use and methods of shifting/operation. I later learned that this was a common problem with the new Taco. So much of an issue---that Toyota released two Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) in an attempt to correct this problem. Nice Taco, OP. I was at Toyota dealership in College Station, Texas this last Saturday, and they had a Tacoma Double Cab 4WD TRD Pro sitting in the showroom. (I checked it out to pass my time while my vehicle wes being serviced.) Pretty nice truck, but the $50,000.00 price tag for a Tacoma just didn't compute. Also, for a TRD Pro, I was surprised that the tires were more of a street tire than an off road tire. Still, it was a nice truck, but not worth anywhere near $50K IMHO. I will stay with my 2003 Tacoma Double Cab 4WD TRD for now and for a long time to come. Retired Texas Lawman | |||

My friend has a new one and his only complaint is that he has trouble reading the instruments in the daytime as they are not illuminated. The instruments on my 2006 4-Runner were illuminated during the day, wonder why these are not . | |||

I love my 98 Taco. Just rolled 200K and chugging along nicely. The only thing I don't like about the newer trucks is the reduced ground clearance. The auto tranny gets better with age on the 2017's. I've got about 5k on mine now and through a combination of me learning how the truck likes to be driven and the truck learning how I like to drive, we have come to a mutual understanding and it's great. You can drive it aggressively if you want and watch the MPG tank but it's responsive and fun or you can drive it conservetively and enjoy a decent MPG. The biggest issue I have with the tranny is likes to be in 5/6 gear at low speeds so sometimes it tends to lug. You really have to put a lot of pedal into it to get it to downshift which takes some getting use too. The go pedal seems to have a long travel distance (think double action revolver) so you tend to have to push it further then other vehicles to get it moving. Overall I'm very happy with mine and glad to be back into a Toyota after my last experience with RAM. Chris | |||

Someone is asking about $7000 more than what I gave for mine with an 8 year extended warranty. Depending on what part of the country you're in, dealers will not negotiate and they are selling them for 5-8k over sticker. In the south, not so much. I managed to talk them down. I traded in an FJ Cruiser and they gave me in trade what the dealer paid 3 years ago. I had a 2011 Tacoma TRD Off-road. I feel like my 2017 is a better truck. I would bet most owners are very happy with them.
