WTF? Damn.

Phoenix Cops Kill Man after Responding to Noise Complaint over Video Game (video at link)

Ryan Whitaker was sitting at home with his girlfriend playing video games when he was killed by police.
A noise complaint from an annoyed neighbor resulted in cops shooting and killing a man within five seconds of him opening his front door.

Ryan Whitaker opened the door holding a gun in his right hand which is legal in Arizona but it made the cops fear for their lives.

However, the cops never gave him a chance to put the gun down which he appeared to be trying to do when one cop shot him in the back three times.

"Why did you guys shoot him?" Whitaker's girlfriend, Brandee Nees, yelled as she stepped into the doorway.

"He just pulled a gun on us, ma'am," Phoenix police officer Jeff Cooke said.

"Because it's dark and someone just knocked on the door," Nees responded.

When Phoenix police officer John Ferragamo asked Nees if she and Whitaker had been fighting, she told him they were only playing video games.

"Literally we were making salsa and playing Crash Bandicoot so there may have been some screaming from PlayStation but it wasn’t domestic violence or anything," she said.

The incident took place on May 22 after an upstairs neighbor called police to complain about the noise.

"I gotta get to work tomorrow and I'm getting no sleep," said the neighbor in the second 911 call he made to police at 10:44 p.m.

When the dispatcher asked if the verbal argument has turned physical, he said it had turned physical but sounded as if he was just saying that to get police to respond quicker.

"It could be physical," he said. "I could say yeah if that makes anybody hurry on up. Get anybody here faster."

The cops arrived eight minutes later and knocked on the door with one of them yelling "Phoenix police" before both of them stepped off to the side, making it impossible for anybody to see them through the peephole. When Whitaker opened the door with the gun to his side, the cops shined their flashlights in his face, blinding him before noticing the gun.

"Whoa! Hands! Hands! Hands!" Ferragamo yelled as Whitaker lowered his body with his left hand in the air and his right hand appearing to be putting the gun down.

Cooke then fired three times, shooting him in the back.

Earlier that day, Whitaker had attended his daughter's high school graduation.

Whitaker's family has been demanding justice for his slaying, according to AZ Central:

"They shot my brother in cold blood and murdered him – murdered him," Steven said.

He challenged Phoenix Police Chief Jeri Williams to fire Cooke, who has been with Phoenix PD for about three years, and arrest him for murder.

"We want justice for Ryan," he said. "Be accountable for your actions. Hold people accountable."

"This proved everything I've been saying," Whitaker's sister, Katie Baeza, said. "In a fraction of a second, Jeff Cooke was a judge, jury and executioner of my brother."

"If you watch that video and are OK with it, you need to step down," she continued, directing her comment at Williams. She also said the man who called 911 escalated the situation unnecessarily and should be held accountable for that.

Bodycam footage was released last month but police say they are still "investigating" whether they will charge Cooke.

The video above includes the shooting from both cameras, including portions in slow motion as well as statements from Whitaker's girlfriend that they were not fighting. The 911 call that claimed they were fighting is also included. The caller has not been identified.

Suggest a new title and I'll edit it. Guy fucked up, cops fucked up. He didn't deserve to die. I've literally had almost exact same situation happen and both times only cracked door and kept gun on other side, cops were understanding of me answering door armed and just asked I set it down.

"PINAC News" PINAC stands for "Photography is not a crime"

This is a First Amendment "Auditor" site.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/...raphy_Is_Not_a_Crime

Let me tell you what I know about 1A Auditors- most of them seem to do nothing but harrass the police and other city and state employees. I've never seen a single video from an auditor which showed anything but an angry police hater with a camera, a loud mouth and a small brain. You cn find these "auditor" videos all over youtube. I've seen plenty of them. They're a bunch of petulant children who need their cellphone shoved up their ass.

Do not post any links to this website, or any of these so-called "First Amendment advocates". They seem to be nothing but angry, police-hating children who live to get a reaction out of civil authorities.

I don't want to have anything to do with these kind of people. IMO, they're frauds hiding behind the Constitution. Their goal is not to inform. Their goal is not to exercise their Constitutional rights. Their goal is to be a nuisance, as much as they possibly can be.

In the case of the incident in question, it seems the police were influenced by a less-than-honest 911 caller. The man who was killed shouldn't have opened his door with a pistol in his hand. If he felt there was a genuine threat on the other side of his door, he shouldn't have opened it.

I don't know the whole story, but I think I've got the gist of it. I see mistakes on both sides of it.

Mmmmmmmm, I’ve learned that newspapers rarely report all the facts. But based on that article, the police identified themselves, and he opened the door while armed.....
At least one of the cops was in fear for his life that a man who answered the door was armed- that he shot the man.

Things I know.

Don’t have guns in your hands when cops see you, whether you just got done shooting a real bad guy at a mall shooting or answering your door....some cops won’t wait to let you explain

Some cops are scared of their shadows..
Some cops are aware that they are targets nowadays....
Some cops became cops for the steady wage And no other reason...

Hell, I was a cop and if I answered my door to someone pounding on the door yelling “cops” I’d look out another window to look for a police car. (My front door doesn’t have a peep hole) and discar a weapon if it was the real cops.

It sounds like a bad all around event but shit happens- seems like both sides could have reacted differently.

Para, nuke if you want, someone will post same thing from a more reputable site I'm sure.

The video speaks for itself, homeowner was reckless in opening the door the way he did, and cops were overzealous in the shoot. In my mind errors all around. It was unfortunate situation, but I'm not personally going to condemn the police. They were wrong, but understandably wrong.

Never heard of site before.

Why did you choose that original subject line? The heat you're taking is due to that. You should know better than to use such a biased subject line. If you want to appear objective, that's no way to start a thread.

Para, was too quick on the draw, simply took article headline, modified it slightly and ran with it.

Rather than discuss my combo bad title and bad source, just delete it and start a new. Someone else will post the story I'm sure. This post has only been up for a few and I'd rather the discussion be about the events than my source or bad titling.

I'm not going to delete this, and that's not in an attempt to embarrass you. I want members to see this, so they know one of the things not to do in this forum.

Anyone who wants to see the behavior of 1A auditors, you can find countless videos of their childish activities on youtube.

Take a look at this. These guys seem to audit the auditors. The original video is from a channel called Auditing America, who are nothing but annoying, loudmouthed children.

Tell me if you see anything of actual use or even coherency in this video. All they're doing is creating a public nuisance and harrassing people who are trying to make a living. They do this over and over, all to make money from youtube mouse clicks. They represent themselves as Press, but they are anything but journalists.

This way, you can see these clowns in action without giving them any clicks.

The guy was obviously lowering the gun. What did the cop think he was crouching down to shoot at his ankles? That cop panicked and shouldn’t be a cop anymore. Home invasions do happen with people pretending to be cops.

How did we get here?

Where a person has to fear the police?

Where the police have to fear the person?

I say we look to the people that make up the "1A auditors" the "Sovereign Citizens", the "BLM", the "Antifa", and all the iterations of same.

Those and their kind are the enemy of this Republic. Know them. Identify them. Point them out. And be prepared to deal with them.

They are who are ultimately the cause of this type events.

Anyone with concerns about someone pounding/knocking on their door yelling 'Police' CAN (and SHOULD!) call 911 to verify if the Police are actually supposed to be there!

Curious. It is it likely to get a response from 911 before the police enter your house? Will the police outside the door calmly and patiently wait for your verification?

I wonder. How often do police overreact, shoot an innocent person, in supposed "self defense"? Should that be chalked up as just an "oopsie", a bad day at the office? And how often are police targeted/attacked with little warning where they have little time or flexibility to consider options? How many police abuse their authority vs how often are police abused by the populace?

I would not be opening my door. If the folks on the other site claimed POLICE!, I’d call myself to confirm before opening the door. I would still have my gun on me.
