Our pastor made a comment last Sunday that everyone in our church is quite safe. Saying, without saying, that there are a lot of armed members in the congregation, in addition to the 3-5 uniformed officers on site as well. The Enemy's gate is down. | |||

Actually, that brings a question to mind. If things do go sideways during church, are you sure that the uniforms know the congregation members from the bad guys and won't just shoot anybody with a gun? I'm not trashing on cops here, this is about two groups of people that maybe don't socialize on a regular basis. | |||

The "writer", was quoting the parent who was using the term "he" to describe the shooter. And FWIW, the whole "pronoun" thing has pretty much fallen off the edge of the flat chested earth. (read, mainstream vernacular) Let's not lose sight of the discussion of people murdering kids, for that sake, the hatred that is driving it, and those who are behind supporting it. That’s an issue. Another issue is this guy stuck boards through the outward opening double doors’ handles so the doors couldn’t be opened from the inside. Then, from the outside, he shot through the windows into the building. My impression is this was happening on the least visible side of the building. At my church, cameras would catch people in the parking unloading gear and such and walking up to the entrances. We can stop them from entering the building, but I don’t believe we have a plan to prevent someone from shooting into the building. I’m sure this will be discussed soon. | |||

That’s a very legitimate and serious concern. It really is vital to have situational awareness and as I’ve told people in training classes, don’t have a gun in hand when the police arrive. The police shot and killed the good guy in one incident I’m aware of, and even in an exercise I conducted they “shot” the wrong person because he was holding a gun that according to the scenario he had taken away from the killer and despite the fact that he was not doing anything that could have been considered to be threatening. Although I haven’t seen anyone talk about it recently, one time there was the idea that you’d tell the 911 operator who you were, description, etc., to relay to the police. There are officers on site in P250’s scenario. Might I suggest to get there a little early and (not obviously armed) folks go up and say hi each and every Sunday to every officer present. Just a friendly, “Hey thanks for being here.” No need to say, “I’m carrying.” Just make yourself known to those officers every church service. -------- After the game, the King and the pawn go into the same box. | |||
