I had no idea Hackman was 95 years old. He was often really good in the roles he chose. Like everyone else I assume the heater malfunctioned in the house.

I was just watching “The Bird Cage” last night, lamenting over Robin Williams. They were all so good in it.
Dammit.

Well said, darthfuster, and I agree. Duval and Hackman are two of the best actors over the last 50 years to me. Hackman's range was probably unmatched. He was one of the best character actors I have ever seen, and maybe the only one who could also pull off the leading man's role, with the weight to carry a movie.

His gift for comedy was amazing as well. Some of his scenes in The Royal Tenenbaums still make me chuckle just thinking about them.

My favorite role for him was Avery Tolar in The Firm. In the book, Tolar was completely unsympathetic, but Hackman's onscreen version was amazingly sympathetic. Yes, the movie role was written that way, but I am not sure how many actors could have pulled it off. I think he deserved another Oscar for that one.

Yes, when he retired from acting, no fanfare, no press conferences, nothing. He just simply stopped acting.

Hackman was a fine actor.

I loved him in "The Royal Tennenbaums," among many others.

His list of great movies is really long.

I hope something positive comes out of this and hardware stores sell a million CO detectors this week.

I have a few SIGs.

Couple of things. Hackman wasn’t in Bullitt. You must be thinking of another car chase film, the French Connection.
And linking him to the Epstein list is just wrong, even in jest. If absolutely nothing else he would have been in his ‘70s.
And thers plenty of “else” to suggest he wasn’t that type.

I always enjoyed his performances and I'm not much of a movie watcher.

One of the great ones.

Loved the scene from the French connection where he unlocks his hand cuffs from the bed frame and pulls a pubic hair from his teeth. Wink

The Saloon scene from Unforgiven is a classic for sure.

Godspeed Gene and family.

I have a very close friend in Germany whose husband died of CO poisoning a few weeks ago. They had bought an old ambulance that had been converted to an RV and spent a night in it. Husband died in his sleep. My friend was hospitalized, but recovered. They were absolute soulmates and she is beyond devastated.

Besides his better know roles, let's not forget some great performances in lessor roles. The best Lex Luthor ever, and General Sosabowski in A Bridge Too Far.

General Stanislaw Sosaboski: Faith? I will tell you how much faith I have. I am thinking of asking for a letter from you stating that I was ordered to go on this mission in case my men are massacred.
Lt. General Frederick Browning: I see... I do see. Do you wish such a letter?
General Stanislaw Sosaboski: No... In the case of massacre, what difference will it make.

I enjoyed many of his movies, particularly The Conversation. Taking place in early 70's era San Francisco, written/produced by Francis Ford Coppola, I could enjoy the many parts of SF from my childhood that are no longer around.

One interesting bit about this movie, besides its outstanding story and directing, is the cast: Harrison Ford, Robert Duval, Cindy Williams, John Cazale, Teri Garr, Fredrick Forest, Allen Garfield, Michael Higgins...just about the ENTIRE cast has gone on to make their mark, been apart of notable work and all carved-out very nice careers.

In Unforgiven he was unforgettable as Little Bill Dagget. And a great comic turn in Young Frankenstein. Another favorite of mine is Bite The Bullet.
I am also guessing Carbon Monoxide poisioning caused this.

I wonder yoop. The dog that died was outside in the kennel and two more are ok. Not sure where they were. If reported correctly at this point. That seems odd to me.
