Poor phrasing. Another article stated that the PD called the fire department after they realized what was going on to make sure there were no hazards in the home.

Mummified is likely incorrect language but, you know the news, they'll run with a striking or, catchy word for a headline; especially if it's how a witness describes things. Hackman was 6'2" and looked a solid 200 in his younger days, at age-95 recent pictures show a man who's much older and thinner than what most of us likely remember from his time on screen. Sante Fe sits at 7100+' elevation, and Hackman's home sat a bit higher up overlooking the city. The air is dry in the West, there's little humidity like what the rest of the country experiences. The higher up in elevation you go, the thinner and drier the air becomes.

There is a recent picture of Hackman in the article he looks 92ish and in need of help to get around.

I think the autopsy reports are going to take awhile and be very interesting. The Daily Mail article, if correct about the scene and placement of the bodies, raises a number of questions and it'll also be interesting to see what the investigators come up with as concerns the scenario.

The evening news just said it appears he fell and may have hit his head. The wife was in a bathroom with prescription bottle open and pills spilled. They said there were not signs of carbon monoxide poisoning. They clearly implied that scenario. My wife asked how did the dog die? ------------------------------ Smart is not something you are but something you get. Chi Chi, get the yayo

At Gene's advanced age his death seems normal. Her's at 63 and the dogs not a normal occurrence. So those things are definitely out of the ordinary. Edit: Para's explanation about the dogs death makes some sense. Her's seem's weird if not a cmp'ing. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

That makes little sense. The dog was in a cage and likely died from dehydration. Two other dogs were roaming free on the property. The door, if not latched, could have been pushed open by one of the dogs. The one safe prediction you can make about all of this is that people will make more of this than what actually happened. It was ass-probing space aliens who got carried away, dazzled by Hackman's celebrity.

Man. That sucks. His body of acting work for last 60 years is impressive. Praying it was not violent and just a horrible accident. My personal preferences in no particular order: Superman movies. Unforgiven French Connection The Conversation Hoosiers Mississippi Burning That’s off top of my head for the really good movies he made that I enjoyed. He was in dozens of films.

“Mummified” is news media terminology for “dessicated”, perhaps. Sounds much spookier.

Night Moves is currently available on the TCM app. Reminds me a lot of the Humphrey Bogart noir classics like 'The Big Sleep'. Of course The French Connection is a classic, I'll add Crimson Tide and The Replacements. We studied both movies in various leadership classes over the years. This generation of actors is hard replaced. Back when acting required skill, and couldn't rely on special effects.

His Royal Hiney![]() |
What I liked about him as an actor is that when I'm watching him in a movie, I cannot place him in any other movie. He is the character whom he is playing at the moment. I know he played the sheriff in Unforgiven but his memorable role for me was when he played the coach for a high school basketball team. That's when I realized he's a great actor. It was a small movie but he was putting into it all he had (but no overacting or hamming it up). Yoou'd think it was his first major part that he ever did and he was doing his best to make a name for himself. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

One of the first movies I ever saw him in was Uncommon Valor. I can't recall ever seeing a movie that he was in that I didn't like. As to the possibility that they died from gas poisoning but there were no signs of it when police arrived: - The house is apparently outside of a small town, so they may have had a propane or natural gas tank. - There was apparently a period of time between the time of death and when they were found. A leak would have time to kill them, then drain the rest of the tank and dissipate before they were found. Hoosiers will always be one of my favorites of his. Phone's ringing, Dude.

I have the opposite reaction to seeing Gene Hackman in any movie. To me, he’s playing Gene Hackman… and Gene Hackman seemed like an interesting person/character. To my mind, Mr. Hackman didn’t disappear into a character, the character disappeared into Gene Hackman. Contrast Mr. Hackman with Gary Oldman. Mr. Oldman BECAME a drug-addled punk rocker, became Ludwig von Beethoven, became a beat-down American police captain, became an eccentric monomaniacal futuristic corporate overlord that could pitch a hand-held weapon system to giant lizard aliens, became Dracula, became an ultra-wealthy parapalegic with an acid-burned face hell bent on revenge… … and I’d forget I was watching Gary Oldman. I’m a huge fan of “Hoosiers” and “The French Connection” and thought Mr. Hackman was outstanding in those films… but I always knew I was watching Gene Hackman. I enjoyed watching him work. ___________________ Company, villainous company hath been the spoil of me.
