Went to the dealer on 12/31 and they had a production date in the second week of Feb. Picked up the car on 2/19. ------------------------------------------------ 9/11/01 Never Forget "In valor there is hope" - Tacitus

I ordered a Ford Maverick Hybrid in August 2021. I wanted Mud Flaps, and the dealer said that would delay the build. I told him that I would wait until Ford advanced their production expertise to include installing mud flaps. Evidently ordering a spray in bed liner also delays production. At this point, based on YouTube videos and internet forums, I expect delivery in 2023. Maybe. I was at the dealer yesterday to get my annual Virginia mandated safety inspection. There was not one single new vehicle on the lot. Under the current regime, our grocery stores look like Venezuela and our car stores look like Cuba. How progressive. ---------------------------------------------------- Dances with Crabgrass

I put down a $1000 refundable deposit on a Porsche 911 S back in July. That was just to get a delivery slot, no idea how long it will take now. What worries me is that I don't think this issue is going to get any better for several years. Too much has changed and I just don't see the dealers going back to having tons of vehicles on the lots and offering rebates or dealing. Hope I'm wrong but doubt it. What do you think?

Ordered an F150 Tremor at the end of January. Was told 5-7 month wait. I'm not in any rush to get a new one, but was told the sooner I ordered the better chance i have to take delivery this year. This supply chain bullshit needs to be over. I'm a deplorable.

Not lately, but we ordered a Ford Explorer ST the Friday before Mother’s Day of 2021 and it showed up the last week of January 2022.

SIL bought a 1/2 ton, mid trim, diesel truck today. He felt good to only pay MSRP. zero percent interest helped. Around here the dealerships are making serious coin. Cars being sold well above sticker means $$$$ per sale. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Ordered a Porsche Macan in July and took possession in October; everything went like clockwork. Part of the reason I took an interest in the Felicity Ace auto transport fire is because we had the name of the ship our car was on when it departed Emden, Germany. Like the ill-fated ship (that didn’t make the port) it stopped in Davisville, RI, before sailing around to Houston, where our car was unloaded. We actually received our car earlier than scheduled. _______________________________________________________ despite them

I was at a dealership this week for a service apt. They had tons of very late model used rigs. I could not believe how many they had. So no problem with the number of late model used rigs. And they were asking outrageous prices. "Practice like you want to play in the game"

And every dealer is adding a bunch of dealer installed options. I was looking for a new 4 Runner and some places were $2,500 over sticker and $2k in add ons. ........................................... All I've had all day is like six gummy bears and some scotch...

I must be trailer trash. I have always just walked on a lot, picked the car that was closest to what I wanted, dickered for it, and bought it. What is this ordering thing? That sounds like how rich guys do it. Lol

No, not like Bill Clinton |
Most of the in demand (in my case, HD trucks, Tahoe's, Suburban's and of course Vettes) vehicles are sold orders or sold before they arrive, ordering is about the only way you can get what you want right now and pray that the Car Gods are kind to you I personally have about 75 vehicles in the order bank, accepted, built or in transit. just waiting and waiting

I don't think dealerships are hurting. Sales people at dealerships are hurting. If you are not buying or cannot obtain a new vehicle, you continue to drive your existing vehicle. This results in more maintenance and repairs - which is the profit center for most dealerships.

I Deal In Lead |
I have too. Came close to ordering once, though, when I lived in Anchorage Alaska. Made a list of the options I wanted up to and including the color of the truck. The Sales Manager looked at the list, remarked that it was a bit unusual compared to what most people wanted, then said "I've seen this list before" and said he'd be right back. Came back a few minutes later and said they had that exact truck in stock, someone ordered it and put a down payment on it and then disappeared and they were now prepared to sell it for $1,000.00 under MSRP. The only hitch was the color which wasn't what I wanted. I took a look at it and decided I really liked the color and bought it on the spot. It was my daily driver for 24 years.
