Anyone have a gun or items being shipped from Arkansas or anywhere down south around there right now? I’m up in IL and my gun was supposed to come in a few days ago but the tracking stopped updating and it says it is “arriving late and on way to next facility”. It’s still in Arkansas as far as I know. No one can tel me anything at the USPS. How long would you all wait until developing concern?

USPS is a complete mess right now. I waited for a little over a month for a package last November-December. It said the same thing for the longest time “arriving late-still in transit”. It finally arrived, but way later than it should have.

In December our carrier told us there were 60 something unloaded semis at the Columbus hub. Covid absentees and sorter spacing were to blame. I guess that sounds plausible. Unwarranted but plausible.

Good grief. Not sure what I can even do now. I don’t even really mind waiting an extra few days, I just don’t want my package getting handled more than it needs and incurring any damage.

My experience recently has been that often when shipments enter the 'Arriving Late / On the way to the Next Facility' status, the package has somehow dropped off of the Tracking System, but then by magic is suddenly 'Out for Delivery'....Sooo, hopefully yours shipment shows up VERY Soon! Wink

While things were VERY Seriously Screwed Up at the USPS during the holidays, I've noticed a marked improvement in the last couple of weeks.

ETA - Upon further review, as well as reading the many other tales of continuing gross ineptitude by the USPS detailed below, I assume I must have somehow gotten lucky lately....I hope my luck continues! Wink

I mailed some financial paperwork to Alabama last week; it's been "in transit; arriving late" all week. Mad

My meds were a week late. I have given up on dealing with USPS. Delivery times at my office, PO Box and home are late and random. Seems like a third world country. The head of the USPS when called to answer for the problems stated the Postal Service was cost cutting. He came across as a pompous ass.

Yeah, there's a lot of mail held up in the midwest due to the ice storms.

We shipped a package to an eBay buyer on Dec 11 - Maryland to Chicago - First Class Mail with tracking.

Jan 6, it was scanned at the Jackson, MS distribution center.

Feb 4, it was scanned at the Chicago distribution center.

Feb 26, she contacted us and we reshipped via Priority Mail.

March 2, she received both the reshipped package and the original package.

Did I mention that she lives in Chicago? The package was in Chicago for 26 days prior to delivery.

There’s a reason the postmaster general had to go before Congress to answer questions last week. They’re actually worse than they were before Christmas.

Oh, yeah.

Y'know, the US Procrastination Service has one job- to convey the mail and right now, they are failing.

COVID? The heads of the Postal Service have had a freaking year to implement a plan to counter the anticipated impact of the Big Kahuna virus. Great job, guys.

Not sure the shipping method, but Feb 6th I ordered a 20" x 96" wire shelf from Home Depot (northwest Washington State) that was shipping out of Georgia. On Feb 28th called to ask when it was to arrive, told it was lost in transit. Asked how do does one lose and item that large. No idea I was told. A replacement was reordered on Feb 28th out of Georgia again.

Think will ask who the shipping carrier is.

No one at USPS know anything unless your package is sitting on the counter in front of them and they might not get it right even at that. We had prescription drugs leave Arizona and take 2 days to show up in Dallas, TX where it spent the next 21 days being moved from one USPS facility to another. No holidays to interfere, no ice or snow to interfere. Heck when we had ice and snow here a couple of weeks ago, we didn’t see a delivery truck for more than a week and the cold weather only lasted 4 days.

Local story reported today - this is the regional facility that services our area. I've had this happen multiple times - package marked delivered with nothing to show for it - tracking marked 'no one home' or other nonsense when we were at the house all day, etc. Multiple times over the past year. Oh, they are going to conduct 'additional training', because, you know, it's a training issue and not a bunch of lazy frauds trying to get out of doing their jobs.

USPS marked thousands of packages as delivered while they sat at the post office
Internal auditors found a major Post Office under the Greensboro manager's control improperly marked more than 40,000 packages as delivered.

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A quick search of Youtube shows a lot of people had a problem that you too might have experienced. The United States Postal Service marked your package as delivered, but it never showed up at your door.

So where was your stuff? Internal USPS auditors stopped by a major North Carolina post office during the holiday shipping season and found thousands of delayed pieces of mail. They also discovered "delivery unit employees improperly scanned packages at the station rather than at the delivery point."

Between May and September post office employees at the Avent Ferry Station in Raleigh, which is under the Greensboro district manager, marked more than 41,000 pieces of mail as delivered even though the packages were still at the station.

Auditors recommended the manager of the Greensboro district give refresher training on package scanning procedures writing: "When employees do not scan mail pieces correctly, customers are unable to determine the actual status of their packages. By improving scanning operations, management can potentially improve mail visibility, increase customer satisfaction, and enhance the customer experience and the Postal Service brand."

The auditors also found that sometimes packages were marked as "no access to the delivery point" or "animal interference" with the delivery even though the scans were done miles away from where the package was supposed to be delivered. Because of this audit, postal workers are getting additional training.

If you keep having problems, let investigative reporter Ben Briscoe know and he'll keep digging. You can e-mail him at bbriscoe@wfmy.com or search for him on Facebook by looking for WatchDogBen.

I posted a while back, last ~July I shipped a pkg, "book rate" from CA to UT. After a few weeks I contacted them, they said it was in Iowa. Then it was in "recovery", ie, lost. I provided the titles and authors of the books, IIRC "recovery" is in Atlanta.

I got ~monthly emails that they were still looking. Around Jan they told me it was gone. Too bad. (And seems there is no insurance on book rate).

"Complete mess" is a bit of an understatement. "Train wreck" or "dumpster fire" is probably closer to the mark.

I just decided not to buy a thing at all, as opposed to buying it being shipped USPS. Y'see, I want it this year. This is the second purchase I've recently forgone because the only shipping method was USPS.

A lot of mail travels by air, with the Kung flu ravaging our cities and towns planes aren’t flying. ....I had a part stuck in Portland for 14 days waiting on the backlog of shit piled up there to catch a flight to TX.

Learned my lesson.

I opt for UPS whenever I can now.

Last year I had a part ordered from the Sig Factory in NH....I literally could have driven there and back from Texas-in reverse- quicker the the USPS delivered my part...which was in a piece of paper in a regular envelope....nothing larger, heavy, radioactive, deadly, or even abnormal...just a regular letter envelope.

I hate the usps.

Yes, the USPS is a complete cluster fuck right now Mad

We are going days with no mail at all, then we’ll get it all at once. My tenant mailed his rent check LAST THURSDAY and we still haven’t seen it. He’s always really good about paying on time so I doubt he’s BSing me. Ended up with him canceling the check and I drove to meet him to pick one up in person.

Funny thing is, this doesn’t seem to be the case with Amazon, UPS or FedEx, just the government one.

My theory? These postal workers are milking the shit out of this whole Covid thing. “Cough...cough...cough...boss I think I got Covid!” “Okay then, take 2 weeks off with pay!”

Sidenote. A few years ago I worked with a firm in San Jose CA. Their largest client in TX would mail the check the last Friday of each month. Without fail, the check would be in our mailbox on Monday (standard mail, nothing special).

But we had a sub-office in Modesto CA, 40 miles away. It would take a week for a letter to get from them to us. Never figured that one out.
