I tried to fix mine, it was cracked and I needed a special tool of some sort to replace.it. I was so happy I couldn't fix it. I will never buy HE again.

Yep. Cubic footage of front-load HE machine ("IEC") is overstated due to the funky way they calculate it.

And I wash my king sized comforter in my Speed Queen Classic TC5 washer. Don't know why you'd need anything larger, unless your family has eleventeen kids that are crapping their pants thrice daily apiece, in which case you have my condolences.

My GE basic front load stacking set is now 19 yers old and still works fine. The washer's never leaked, in fact the only thing that failed was the turn knob on the dryer to set the dry setting/time. GE wants $40 plus postage for a new knob but plastic epoxy clamped with a zip tie fixed it. Front loaders have their drawbacks but getting clothes very clean while using less detergent sure isn't one of them.

HE front loaders. We've had one for years, and while it doesn't leak, it will stink up if we don't make sure the lid stays open 24x7 (except for the times it's actively washing, of course.)

The drainage isn't perfect and unless the front door seal dries out completely, it mildews. Found that out the hard way. Eeeww.

So we got a clip-on fan and aim that at the open washer, and that (along with the 'open 24x7' policy) has kept the mildew demons appeased.

I’m going with a top load. With work clothes, other clothes and towels we pack the 4 cubic feet tub to the top. That’s washing one load daily.

My wife loves her Speed queen, bought it at the local main street appliance store (buy local, buy small) has a 7 yr warranty, washes and dries nicely.

The teen age kids like to try and wash ALL their clothes in ONE wash load unless we catch them, and so far no problems.

I dunno, we have an LG set; Turbowash series washer advertised at 5 cu/ft with matching natural gas dryer. Both have been trouble-free for over 6 years now. Can easily accommodate a comforter and then some. Though the dryer normally takes more than one cycle with heavy bedding like that but overall can't really complain.

Appliance Brad for years said to stay away from Samsung and LG. There’s a reason why parts are difficult to source for those brands.

Bought a Maytag Bravos XL set about seven years ago. So far no problems.

Bought a new set of Maytags a year ago.

I love the dryer. Not a single problem (as should be expected after only a year).

I LOATHE the top-loading agitator-less washing machine. I cannot put into words how much I hat that thing. At first, it was always going off-balance (reminded me of the .gif where they throw a cinder block into the running door-less dryer).



It sounded like this, and thumped across the laundry room floor like it was possessed.

FINALLY got a repair tech to come, under warranty, tweaked some stuff, and had to wait another 4-6 months for parts to come in and replace a suspension spring or something. Now, it's 'fixed' and out of warranty, so it's as good as it will ever get. It still sucks.

It goes out of balance regularly, though not as often as before. Just washing a set of king sheets (flat sheet, fitted sheet, 2 pillowcases) would cause it to go out of balance. It would no-kidding take me 3 HOURS to wash ONE load of laundry. God help us when we try to launder a king comforter. It routinely just aborts the wash cycle and shuts down without any warning. Did I mention I HATE THIS PIECE OF CRAP????

Even when it seems to work, I'm not convinced it actually washes the clothes properly. At least with the front-loader, we can see it sloshing the clothes around inside the drum. With the no-agitator model, I'm not sure if the clothes even mix or get clean. I have some 'clean' clothes that smell funny. The agitator-less models claim to put less wear-and-tear on the clothes, but I don't think it really cleans.


I am so sick of this stupid thing we are just going to buy another machine; this time a front-loader (we had a set for over 10 years - never leaked, never a single problem). We will likely garage-sale or Goodwill the old one, but I feel sorry for whoever ends up with this piece of crap. I am tempted to just throw it away.

We were seriously considering the Speed Queen but it just wasn't going to work for us. We ended up going with a Whirlpool WTW8127LC for the capacity and features.

Speed Queen. We have the super cool electronic version. No issues. Clean clothes.

Hopefully it was in-stock or you don’t have to wait long. Our washer went out and we went with a Speed Queen and it took 6 months to get it. The delivery people screwed up and failed to remove all of the shipping bolts so the washer ended up with some damage after two washes. The dealer is going to replace it with a new one, but it will be another 6 months. We are getting to use the one we have until we get the replacement. I have to say a properly working Speed Queen works amazing. I hope you enjoy your new washer.

It was delivered yesterday. It’s surprisingly whisper quiet so it’s a good thing the app tells us when it’s done by alerting our phones.

A month ago we bought a SQ analog, so far the wife really likes it. We bought locally, they had a unit on display with a king size comforter in it, so capacity was not an issue. We bought the matching DC5 dryer and it is still on back order, our current one works fine so no real hurry.

Glad you were able to find a unit you like. Availability is definitely still an issue. The appliance specialist at work says Maytag quality isn’t near what it used to be for whatever that’s worth.

Yes, I talked to a couple of people and they said we were very lucky the one we wanted was actually in stock. I did a lot of reading of professional washer reviews and this one was the only one that got a resounding “yes, buy this washer”. The Speed Queen line got consistent marks for sub-par cleaning and outdated design. This one was pretty expensive but looks like we made the right choice.
