Boeing wasn’t happy" with that decision, the NASA executive told the Post. "And they made that perfectly clear to us. But what’s the headline if there’s a catastrophic failure? It’s not ‘Boeing killed two astronauts,’ it’s ‘NASA killed two astronauts.’ So no, it’s better safe than sorry."

And this is the problem with executives...they're not worried about the lives of the two astronauts, they're worried about who's going to get blamed for their deaths.

NASA says they’ve figured it out.

It is an automatic signal to cover the profanity uttered by the crew about their busted capsule.

What are they eating and drinking during this extended visit? How many times can you recycle urine?

There’s unmanned supply missions to the ISS. There’s no issue with food and water. The next crewed mission will be two people short and the stranded astronauts will be subs for the two left behind on Earth.

The Dragon capsule that is currently docked at the ISS will bring back the astronauts originally scheduled to come back on it as they have been up there for more than 6 months.

Seems for an astronaut it's a dream come true getting an extended stay in space. They're getting flight time that's limited and in demand.

Going up in one spacecraft and coming back in an entirely different type is probably exciting and a once in a lifetime experience.

That's a good point, but I'll admit I'd be mighty ticked off if my 8-day task turned into an 8-month event. In that case, Sig2340 would be entirely correct, and either the frequency or the duration of the beeps would have to be increased.

God bless America.

A mysterious sound heard emanating from the Boeing Starliner spacecraft has been identified as feedback from a speaker, NASA said in a statement Monday, assuring the capsule's autonomous flight back to Earth is still slated to depart the International Space Station as early as Friday.

"The feedback from the speaker was the result of an audio configuration between the space station and Starliner," NASA said, adding that such feedback is "common." The statement said the "pulsing sound" has stopped.

Yeah...likely story.

Think they brought enough extra underwear for the extended stay?

It's a rudimentary electronica-trance mix a DEI hire at Boeing programmed into the Starliner sound system just because.
