The Member Directory has been gone for a long time.
Users registered prior to a set date are able to see other members' profiles

If these hacked members had their profiles altered, the email listed there may be incorrect.

Sure, look up his handle now, and you'll be able to access the Profile. But, it's almost a guarantee that the scumbags already swapped out his real email address for their own.

The only reason I knew with 100% certainty that Sig2340's account was hacked is because I know his real email from prior communications.

Yup, it could be AI. Or it could be real, as in the crook actually has the item and writes whatever handle of the account they hacked into. So, on forum A, they write username Joe on the piece paper, and on forum B, it's Tom. Here is what happened yesterday with jigray3's hacked account. That note being AI or real is irrelevant. Just the entire listing was suspect. The gun appeared photoshopped, as you see zero shadow on the carpet, too-good-to-be-true price, locations not matching. It always comes back to that too-good-to-be-true price. Oh, and, there were a couple of other pics on completely different backgrounds.





Funny thing is, when para asked them which state they are in, they answered and proudly adding that they weren't using "vpn machine", clearly trying to stay ahead of the game.

To echo what many have said, this is the best forum for content and knowledge. it's a comfort zone for me. The members and oversight are why.

I've been MIA since COVID messed up/ruined medicine. When I need some sanity, I still come here to relax, feel at home.

The Classifieds are part of what makes the forum comfortable to members who share the same morals and ethics. The few times I've bought it was seamless, and honor and trust were a given.

The waste of sperm that have tried to ruin that don't belong here. But it isn't fair when policing the Classifieds has become so hard.

if the Classifieds are coming back, that's great, it's the decision of the ownership. I can easily commit to checking to make sure my account is mine.

This is a tough barometer, b/c one person's great deal is another person's too-good-to-be-true. I have purchased things through SF classifieds as well as other sites that some might have considered too-good-to-be-true. And this is an area where scammers have gotten better. They price their fake ad at the low end or slightly below fair market value (FMV) to draw interest but not too low as to arouse suspicion.

For example, the scammer had that X-Macro priced at $500. I've bought a lightly used X-Macro for $500. My LGS has a pre-owned X-Macro Fuse in their case for $500. $500 is on the low end of FMV but not what I consider unrealistic. $300 would be fishy, although that's about what a gun shop would pay to buy it used.

There's also some sense of camaraderie in the classifieds. We feel comfortable selling to other forum regulars knowing the risk is low and aren't looking for top dollar. Q is a perfect example of having posted deals like that. That's also why we frown on members who seemingly joined to use the classifieds and not much else.

He thinks we're idiots. The really funny part is when I asked someone else who posted in that thread, why they were using a VPN, he called me a "dumbass" because he wasn't using a VPN. I just happened to quote the other person in the same response and this genius couldn't even see that I quoted the other person before asking that question. But I'm the "dumbass" you see.

Well, "dumbass" has caught him several times in a row and made the thief mad enough to reveal himself, and if that's being a dumbass, I'll take it. The fact is that we could re-open Classifieds right now and be just fine. All I would have to do is keep on doing what I was doing, which is scrutinizing each new ad as it's posted. You can see the result of this method. Yes, it requires additional work, but it's not a big deal, really.

But, we're going to get to a point where that's not necessary. More to follow.

For the members who have responded with some version of “good”, I stand here confused by your response. There is no other part of the internet that I trust enough to buy/sell. Seeing this part of the forum close, even temporarily, is many things, but good is not one of the words I would use.

Pretty sure “good” means a ton less headache for para, and not because members are happy at losing the Classifieds. And, I’m good with that. I do appreciate the Classifieds when it was operational, but if it never returns again, it’s ok, too. I’m sure you have seen all the shit he had to deal with just in the Classifieds alone.

I think it's a damn shame and I am one who's not smart enough to see a scam unless it's like from Nigeria...lol. I pop in the Classifieds lately as I will be making a purchase soon and often, Members decide to sell a pistol I might desire. This all makes me nervous to post a WTB ad. I do hope the Classifieds come back but am fine with any decisions Para makes. It is nice to know Para, Q and some Members know how to pick out the scammers. That VPN thing, Para said some time back we could not use them to set up our profile. I'm good with this too as I ain't no internet ghost.

SigForum is an invaluable place for information, learning, picking up submarine hatches and getting to know people. There’s no place else online that’s kept me coming back for 20 years. The classifieds are great, some cool as hell stuff can be found there. I’d be here with or without it, but I’m glad to hear it will return eventually. Thanks Para.

Sorry Para for not posting in this thread, but trust me I was watching it. Sad thing is I’ve been thinking about putting some accessories in the classifieds for months, but have read about the problems other members have had with the scammers, and I didn’t want the heartache of having to go through that myself.

When I read that you were possibly shutting down the classifieds, I figured you had a handle on things and didn’t need my input. But trust me I appreciate all the work and effort you put into this place and not just the classifieds.

I’m just glad to have been here 20 something years amongst good and patriotic folks with similar things in common. With more and more in our country taking aim at 2A, this place renews hope. Thank you for your vigilance Para.

As others have said, Thanks! Just in general. I have used the classifieds a good bit- as you alluded to, less as my collecting has slowed with age and storage space. But I check it regularly and would hate it to close ALMOST as much as I hate the hassle for you. I certainly don’t post as much as I used to in general, but that’s because I’ve realized as I’ve gotten older how few people actually need to hear what I have to say.

When mine got hacked they never changed my password.
They changed the email address that is visible in my profile. However the email that notifications go to is not the same as the email that is in my profile.
I am sort of in the market for an ACRO and he had one posted along with the P365 Macro. I happened to be browsing the classifieds (as they are great) I clicked on the ad.
I then noticed my Avatar and thought funny someone would pick the same Avatar and I have never noticed it.

I then went to my profile and saw the email was changed.

I then continued to get notifications for the thread and realized the shitbag had gone in an edited everything I had typed and was trying to get people who responded to pay quickly.
I thought we had a big problem because he was able to edit the thread after I changed my password.
Turns out my password change did not take for some reason. Because I tried to log in with the new password and it did not work but my old one did.

I was able to change the password and the email in the profile and the shitbags gig was up. With no one out any money thankfully.

Thankfully he never changed my password. Would have likely been more complicated to get things fixed and people warned.
