We all understand. Would it be possible to only allow some of our long established members/vendors still list?

Those members whose accounts were hacked had weak passwords?

Does SIGforum have a mechanism to require good passwords? I.e.:
At least 14 characters
From 4 character sets (UC, LC, numbers, special characters)

Serious about crackers.

I don't think it's a weak password issue.

Whatever other measures you take, I've been thinking it may not be a bad idea to start requiring timestamp pictures. Basically, a hand-written note with the forum member's handle and the date in a picture with the item. The issues with the passwords being hacked aside, this alone could help a lot. It's one thing to hack a forum, to hack passwords, but it's a lot more effort and skill required to photoshop handwriting worth a shit. This has massively cut down on scammer activity in a few other places I have done online business.

Is there a chance that the forum software itself has been compromised? It's starting to seem like so many active accounts are being hacked that it's had to believe they're just cracking individual passwords.

www.qrz.com requires membership to post ads. Not sure if this annual fee would discourage the bad guys.

www.qrz.com requires pictures with handwritten dated and named paper note in frame.

I think I speak for all when I say, do what you need to do. Having been a member for over 20 years here, when you speak such things into the air, we all know they have been well thought out and deliberated.

We will follow your lead and are immensely grateful for what you provide here. Let us know how to help.

Para - is there anything that we as individual members can do to help out?

I know that I was part of the problem for a long time. I was using the same weak password for 20 years. I have since rectified that.

Ain't that the truth. It's at least a weekly thing at work taking reports on this crap. And there's nothing we can do about it because even when you can track them the source typically ends up being overseas. It would be just fine with me if after the military gets done dealing with the Venezuelan drug-runners if they shifted the "kinetic intervention" focus to some of these assholes.
