One of my interests is to try to figure out why people form fundamental, strongly-held beliefs. I’ve come to the conclusion that the cult process is one reason: People in cults draw support and validation of their views from each other, but cultism also places severe restrictions on their ability to think independently and criticize any of the cult’s dogma.

I also believe that cults are becoming more common because of the availability of online social media. At one time it was necessary to physically get together with other believers and usually with a strong individual leader, but now all the support, validation, and lockstep discipline is available from a device that fits in our pocket wherever we may be.

I’ve seen other snippets like this one with women explaining (ranting) why they want and deserve a certain type of man to spend time with, much less marry. I believe the other factor that has led to such cultish movements is something that’s also responsible for the breakdown of the family in the US and that’s the social welfare system that means people can depend upon society (the “government”) to take care of them at some point in their lives when throughout most of human history it was necessary to have spouses, offspring, and extended family to provide that security, and still is in many parts of the world. Providing that sort of support to close relatives is a strong evolutionary advantage, but modern life in rich countries, and not just the US, has made that much less imperative.

The desires of people to find a mate based on certain specific traits is nothing new. We just get to see some people put these traits on social media.

The cynic in me thinks the majority of these are made up BS in order to get attention online for clicks, the other 1% are fake bs designed to draw attention for the outrageous claims.

Either way, if she really thinks that way, and really ended a relationship because of it, or, made it up for attention, she's toxic.

Like they say 50% of women in the world are on prescribed medications for mental issues, the other half are running around un-medicated... Razz

Women get like this not from feminism, but from indoctrination by social media. Social contagion. That’s how the trans stuff spread, the anti-Trump, the anti-Musk, all the bad stuff. It’s not that much different from how GOOD ideas spread on a place like SigForum, Instapundit, etc. Ideas are seeded, sprouted, grow and are harvested on this mess called social media.

I love what Elon has done to X/Twitter, but it’s still a hell-hole of hideously irrational cult thought. I can only take maybe twenty minutes of browsing it.

Social media (Tik-Tok probably the worst, but not that much different from Instagram, etc.) is designed to be addictive, to get people riled up and become part of—let’s call it what it is—a mob.

It’s not going away. We’ll be like the Tutsis and Hutus pretty soon.

Seriously, I wonder if adherents will ever admit the harm done to life-long happy relationships by feminist and "inclusionary" philosophies? We are all poorer off for these, no matter how irrelevant they prove in the long run.

Yes and no. Parenting has a big role. Attending an exclusive womens college makes it worse.

We have a few single/unmarried folks at the office. Hearing the dating stories they have, makes me glad to be 15yrs married this year.
My sister is in that boat as well, and in her mid-30s, similar there, doesn't sound like a fun time.

How sad, with the advancements in technology, health, general economic trends, that it's so difficult for rationality to be common ground.

Women seem to have over corrected from an age where harassment and sexism was more common. Perhaps they will come back down to a more pleasant steady state. If not, seems like birth rates will accelerate in a downward spiral.

I check out the residence and vehicles. If they are pigsties, that's your sign to bail. And the final deal killer? Asshole adult children living with the chick while smoking pot and playing video games.
